Little help please.

Post by jackalope »

I got a Mato M36 as my first US tank, I got it in unfinished cause I wanted to make it my own like I have with all my stuff. It came with a Clark board which I found the controls to be rediculous compared to the IBU (no disrespect intended towards anyone who likes Clark boards it's me I just don't like them)

So I've tried to put an IBU 2 in it in every freaking direction I could think to and I just CAN NOT make it fit! I'm not planning to use a smoker, for speakers I'm using Mato speakers so they can sit above the tracks to save space.

I've had to re tap almost every screw hole in the damn tank as they were damn near all stripped. It had broken screws, stripped screws, broken suspension parts the whole tank is just a damn nightmare! I will NEVER AGAIN buy a metal Mato tank what a monumental pain in the ass and waste of time and money!

It's back in its box right now cause I almost threw it out the window. I'm trying to save this tank cause it cost me freaking $700! How on Earth do you guys fit an IBU2 into a damn Sherman? Can it be done on do I need a different board? Please no Clark boards I know they're smaller but I can't get used to the controls. I have an ASP2 on pre order will that work better? What about an Elmod? Please Sherman guru's I need either help or does amyone want to buy this damn thing? All the screws are fixed, it has new suspension from Mato I just can't figure out the electronics.

This is without a doubt the MOST frustrated I've EVER been in my life! This tank has given me more headaches in the 2 weeks I've owned it then my wife has in 22 years of marriage! Please any advice is most appreciated.

I am not the best person to help you BUT Gary/Max and I both have an "ASP" board and it is markedly smaller in every dimension to the IBU2/3 and only a few mm longer than a "CLARK" board AND it is even more a "PLUG & PLAY" board than the IBU,
Why it even comes ready to fit a second MG.
It was cheaper than the IBU and I believe it has been upgraded recently.
In my opinion the "ASP" is much better than the "CLARK" but has a way to go to match the IBU2 PRO,
I have no idea about availability, if you go to=====
http://www.rctanksaustralia.com
that should help.

Jack I forgot to mention that it does not come with much in the way of a manual but the rc Australia forum carries a downloadable one so you need to join their forum which is no hard work except you will find a lot of us there as well. :/

jack,

This is my Heng Long Sherman lower based Firefly with the IBU2 in it. I have since move the speaker up and have added a TARR smoker. Don't know if this would help:

Thanks Michael but the Mato lower has these stupid parts of the suspension that come through the hull and are locked in by metal horse shoe looking parts. So because of this an IBU can't fit next to the battery even length wise. Which is why I'm stuck. But thanks for the pic man!

Hi jackalope,
By now you probably have the M36 all squared away. Have you thought to place the battery above the fender area? There's some usable space there if your not using a high output lipo. A friend of mine with an old Tamiya M4 with a custom drive he built was forced to put his battery above the fender.

My old Tamiya M4 with the clutch drive doesn't have much room inside. I have the 9 channel Flysky RX mounted on the fender near the back of the hull. I know you want all the bells and whistles. I built my M4 very inexpensively and everything has its own ESC to control it. Granted my Old Tamiya doesn't have any thing from Tamiya inside the hull except for the drive unit; it also doesn't have sound or smoke either. Just basic functions and it also has a 360 degree turret M51 turret with an airsoft gun in it.

The tank has servo gun elevation, 360 and beyond turret rotation, and three ESC's. One ESC for the drive, one for the turret traverse motor and one to operate the airsoft guns motor. It's a very unorthodox build to say the very least!!!LOL ;D To be honest, I should have gutted the old clutch drive and bought all new Tamiya electronics and brought the tank into the 21st century, but it was a fun project.

If you have the time here's a link to the build on rcgroups: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2412393

The strange partially visible round white upside down double layer cake thing is so the turrets slip ring wires won't get caught in either the clutch drive or the turret traverse motor. Yes, I have an excessively large lipo in there as well.

It's actually still sitting in its case where I packed it away so it would be safe........from me! :haha:

I'm going to try the Elmod pro board in it when I get my refund for the ASP2 which should be hitting my credit card next week.

Hey, I belive the ibu3 is slightly larger? I have one in mine, I had to shave a couple mm off the suspension mounts but it works (sort of), your best bet is using a thin lipo (or life) battery on its side this would fit fine. I'm currently using an Nimh which fits on its side but the ibu is cricked in the hull but it all works.
