M36B1 attempt

I need a new pair of sprockets as one of these is mangled, and neither have centre covers. I have used them before and seem to recall that they gently twist down and lock into place, gluing them is a bit drastic in case they need to come out again. To hide the elevation arm I just took the servo out, took the arm off, and then plugged it into the 5th channel on another tank receiver. Switched it on and let it self centre. I have a FlySky FS-T6, which has rotary knobs at the top, so I just activated one of those and assigned it to Channel 5, turning the knob left and right moves the servo, so elevation can be run from there. It's a much better solution than doing it off the sticks as there is no way to accidentally move the elevation when firing the gun.

I then reinstalled the arm on the servo but with it pointing down rather than up, so it goes under the breech out of sight. I dispensed with the horrible nut and bolt arrangement that clamps the servo to the turret floor. I cut a piece of styrene to give me a larger area of level deck and glued that in place, and then stuck the servo to the new baseplate with the tape.

Then I just covered it with a plastic box. It's all much lower and best of all there are no servo's or anything else visible.

Mine came with covers that look like a little dime with bolt heads but there's no way to attach them other then glue.

Thanks very much I plan to start work on mine this afternoon, I fixed that broken bogie using epoxy putty similar to miliput but you can use it to fix an engine block and it can be machined so it SHOULD hold tight. Mato has said they're going to send me a couple bogies to replace the broken one and give me a spare for the other side. I'm gonna keep the 1 I fixed until it breaks then I'll replace it. My .50 cal machine gun mount I broke while installing it but I'm going to drill it out and epoxy a pin in there so it'll be good as new aldo.

And just to be a bit clever, as I have nowhere to neatly put an IR emitter, I am going to try and make a telescope using a 3mm emitter. I'll mount it off the breech and align with the commanders hands, if it works the telescope and his arms will move when the barrel goes up and down.

This is all pie in the sky at the moment, but it's got to be worth a shot just for the novelty factor, The sensors can go in a crate on the bustle, but I'll have to hide the wires somewhere.

It came together great! The bits to make the breech more realistic should be sold as a kit. If you don't mind painting, use the wires for your sensors as rope for your storage. You'll need extra lengths of the wire and some of that stone or pattern type paint that dries with a texture but it could be done. Following along.

It came together great! The bits to make the breech more realistic should be sold as a kit. If you don't mind painting, use the wires for your sensors as rope for your storage. I guess it's all done now, need to source a 50 Cal machine gun at some point.

I made the spare barrel rods with styrene tube, plus a bazooka that hides 95% of the wiring from the crate that holds the sensors.

The emitter is a bit ugly but I made the best of a bad job as there was no other way of mounting it.

I have an Elmod Fusion Eco board in the post, the wiring is all done and tested, including the battle system, so it will be a simple matter of plugging it in and programming it to match the M36 when it gets here.

For the 50 cal, I can recommend the Tamiya Sherman sprue. I got two from Jason's Store in Japan. Though showing out of stock, it only took a few days to arrive and was cheaper than Axels.

Thanks for the info, just ordered one. I might push the boat out and get the brass etch kit, though I will wait and see how good I can make the Tamiya one look first.

I've glued magnets to the inside of some of my caps to hold them on. On the tanks where there was no room for the magnet, I use a little flexible adhesive and they come off with just a little effort if needed.
