Advantages of using 3S are

Motors run faster (great for the modern tanks for older tanks if using IBU2/3 you can adjust the speed setting to be more realistic)
Motors will use less current which equates to slower discharge of battery which means longer run time

I tend to use 3S in smaller tanks because find some really small dimensioned batteries are available. Admittedly not as high capacity, but a 3S 2200mah battery in a small light tank will last a long time. My modern tanks with metal upgrades I’ll use 3S 5000-5500mah batteries and these last a long time.

Ideally I like to have a standard battery I can use in all my models but I find a lot of the time it depends on dimensions to fit the battery inside which is the main picking point and I just end up with a load of different batteries for my models.

Also if you haven’t seen this video I shared on my website, it’s worth a watch as a quick overview of the LiPo terminology
