Lowest/slowest ratio gearbox for Torro KT?

Post by tao »

Is the stock gear box that comes with the Torro Kingtiger the lowest available or would a 5:1 add more torque/slower speed?
Or would such a change be insignificant?

Dominique informed me that my Torro KT from 2013 has 3/1 gearbox so I will upgraded to 4/1 or 5/1

First, (and this is one of my pet peeves) these gear box ratios they throw around are totally inaccurate. At my last forum we started calling them three and four shaft gearboxes and what they call 5:1 we named dual ratio.

So now that I have that little tirade out of the way, :) I would recommend the Four shaft (4:1) black steel gearboxes. You might get just a bit less speed with the dual ratio GBs but you can't get the brass versions anymore and they still don't have all the bugs worked out of the steel gears in dual ratio GBs. My Jagdtiger is very similar to the Torro KT and this is a full speed drive by with four shaft black steel GBs

Once I get my Taigen KT straightened out I'm going to do some time trials to see what kind of scale speeds I get from several different tanks and I'll keep ya posted, Tao.

Thanks Max. It seems it came with 3:1 so will go with the black steel 4:1.
I put promax 480 motors in the original gearbox as it just had no power stock but would just like it to be able to drive
as slow as possible. My stug..I put 3:1 in and it can really crawl..though it is much lighter of course!

Good morning, the last StuG I built came with black steel 3-1 type gears. Due to space requirements, those were changed out for a set of the Asiatam Low Profile types which are a 4-1 setup it seems. At full speed, the StuG rolls by at roughly the same speed as the Torro version in the clip.

I've put the V-2 4 shaft boxes in my Torro KT. It's still too fast as far as I am concerned even with the IBU2. It's better overall but is it worth the extra $300.00 I've put into it? A big NO.

I ordered the 4:1 black steel gearbox per dominques suggestion..as it came with 3:1 when I got it..hope I notice some difference??
Thanks! Tom
380 motors sound strong so not sure if swapping my 480 promax would make any difference? Just want a nice slow start up and the ability to drive as slowly as possible.

Joe, would you like to try those brass gearboxes in the KT? If so, I have the proper axle shafts and I'd be more than happy to send you a pair (no charge). I seem to remember the ones you bought have 48mm axle shafts? Anyway, I have extras for both 48 and 58 so let me know if you need some.

I just bought a Stug III and I put asiatam brass dual ratio (5:1) GBs in it and it runs great. Here it is just goofin' around on the carpet but if you want I'll get some outdoor video so you can see how those dual ratio GBs perform. One cool thing is that in a Stug or PzIII you can fit 380 motors to the dual ratio GBs. I have that set up in my PzIII and it's really good.

Max,
Thank you very much! I'm always happy to see how something performs. I don't have any brass gearboxes installed but I do have 380 and 400 motors in a couple of the heavier tanks. I believe the low profile gearboxes in my StuG use the 380s.
with all regards,
Painless
