It looks good Alpha

Noticed something on my build that I put off for long enough. Making the loaders hatch look like the real ones do. Was going to do the hatch padlock point to but maybe later if I get ambitious again. :haha:

Pics of what I did.

 Wonder if I should put that lip on mine lol....my grip is good ...no lip though...and that lock looks like something that will surely disappear one day :haha:
Dang Giant...you will never be finished with yours :haha: :haha: ATC and I seem to have been a bad influence on you ;)

Keep remembering things that I was going to do and didn't. :)
Also with all the Abrams builds going on keep looking over all the prime portal pics I've kept looking for things I missed.

Many seen in you guys builds  that I just passed on at first But had to do to keep up with the your builds :haha:

To return the favor :) here's one for you that appears on Abrams with the loaders mg shield. Looks like they also added stops to the skate rail to keep the loader from shooting parts of the tank he can't see when using the guns scope while he hides behind the shield and a notch in the hatch lip to clear the left side stop :D pic is from an A1 Abrams with the tusk kit installed but I guess the stops would come with all loaders shield kits. :eh:

LOL....you better look into doing Anime tanks Giant :haha: ...less pressure ;) ...if a detail pops up...you can just pass on it...after all...it's an Anime tank lol...it's what I do all the time Image

What's interesting Giant is I can't seem to locate the photo I found that pictured the hatch handle that I made...it's different from yours and ATC's Image
With humorous sarcasm ...I really like those "stops" Image ....imagine how much equipment got shot up or damaged before they started putting them on Image

ATC has it all more or less right but he doesn't have the stops in his skate ring but the notch is there on the hatch lid to clear that one.
He also added a notch in it in another spot but I think he made the skate movable and found that the it wouldn't let the hatch open because the inside edge of the the skate itself is oversize and if the lip is on right it hits the skate.
Or it could be a cutout for the hull side of the hatch padlock post.
On mine the inside of the edge of the skate is thin enough that I didn't have to do that so his may be more correct then mine. I may have to add the padlock posts sooner then I expected to.

But he posts pics in spurts so maybe they will be on in later pics.

Seems that was always a problem in the heat of battle when firing from a protected position. The M48's ended up with a metal gun stop loop being installed to keep the TC from blowing away the spotlight or hitting the main gun tip once they installed the remote 50 cal commanders copulas as the copula itself didn't have anything to built in to prevent that from happening.

I just wonder if it was foresight or hindsight lol...you would think it would have happened in WW2

Probably did but since the turret top 50's where really set up to be operated from a position outside the hatch more then in it unless used for anti aircraft fire it probably wasn't a big problem.

I can't recall any stories by the tankers of the time admitting to shooting their own tank or having a infantry rider using the 50 doing so.

I remember Sassgrunt showing me one of his builds...it had a Porsche King Tiger turret on it...and it was mounted on an Elephant chassis....it was funny...as when he told me the story behind it....the Germans (in hindsight)...found the design was totally impractical...as the gun couldn't be lowered ...even at it's level position...there is a good chance the muzzle flash would have harmed the engines :haha:

I think I saw a picture of that as a prototype somewhere.
The Germans were pretty desperate by that time to field something that would make the Elephant more then a big more or less stationary target for the swarms of Russian tanks and massed artillery.

I run across a rogue photo every once in awhile...even saw someone selling a 1/35th scale kit of it on EBAY :haha: ...it's an interesting design for sure...how it got to the prototype stage I will never know lol
