It's those brackets on the top, rather than the phone on the back, I can see them on all Chieftain turrets but can't find a pic of what they are used for?? Some have more mounts than others, but there is never anything bolted onto them.

I assume that they are inspection covers for whatever is in the bustle?

The ariels are further forward on the turret, behind the loaders hatch.

...I am still thinking spare wheels or tracks, it can't be anything fragile in an exposed area like that?

There are two clips that may have been for something round (R&L of the box) - maybe bigger aerials or flag?

Looking at the fittings on the top, I was wondering whether it was to fasten the hatches open, but could also be to hold something tubular-ish. Shovel or axe maybe?

Hey Woz I was watching that earlier on, he covers every detail on the tank including the tea maker, but doesn't say what bolts into those mounts. :eh:

Anyways, done the basic turret, need to paint it before I can attach the bits along the sides. The barrel goes up and down but has no elevation unit fitted as yet (that will be a fun task), but the servo recoil is in there and has been tested and works.

No but he says it's the NBC compartment so maybe they have something to do with that. If the equipment was expensive or secret then they may have only fitted it in the event of a real NBC threat which is why we can't find any pictures of it on tanks on exercise or out on parade.

Your turrets looking great btw.
