Mathematical genius required

Post by wibblywobbly »

Here is today's starter for 10.

Minituare scale modelling is 28mm.

If I wanted to scale a 28mm model up to 1/16, what would the % increase be?

Hi Rob, found this and I hope it helps
http://theminiaturespage.com/lib/def.mv?id=scale
According to the article, 28mm is equal to 1:58 so to convert, measurements at 28mm should be multiplied by 3.625 to get to 1/16 scale (I think - someone please check my math as it's not my strongest suit, that's why I worked in computers to get them to do all the donkey work). And always remember, to err is human, if you really want to screw things up get a computer!  Alwyn

I also spent the latter part of my career doing IT, it may sound odd that I could oversee an entire bank operating system, but can't do something as simple as this. :haha: :haha: :haha:

I will try your figures and see what I get, either way they will be better than anything that I can guesstimate. :shh:

Yes my last 2 year contract was with Lloyds/HBOS in Copley trying to keep that unholy mess from self-destructing! Talk about the funny farm, if I was sane when I went there (and people would dispute that) then I definitely wasn't when I left. :silent:   Alwyn

Pretty sure it's 3.625 but (big but) doesn't the "mm" scale depend slightly on the reference height of the figure? Ah, Alwyn's link explains it - I always thought the "average height" varied a bit.

s/16 = x s/58

s is dimension of interest
x is scale factor

Mmm , try multiplying the original model/figure by 4.0821434 for 1/16 or 4.2857143 for 120mm/scale . my brain hurtz now .
to the bouncy room ! Yay !

If 28mm is equivalent to 1:58 then I also make the conversion factor 3.625
