quick release tops for tanks

Post by mike1268 »

Ok, I've heard people talking about quick release tops/shells. My only experience of this is the nasty rods sticking through the top of my old RC car that you put a pin through.

How are you guys keeping the tops on your tanks, I would like some ideas as my little Stug is currently screwed down. :)

Magnets work well. The Taigen metal chassis usually come with a facility for the quick release top with comprises of a latch which holds the top on.

As Tom say's TAIGEN HULLS come with a quick release, the good news is that it comes as a complete kit including instructions, which means that it will convert a HENG LONG body as well as a TAIGEN body so they are interchangeable, If you are building a PANZER 4 and you are fitting engine bay hatches this requires the removal of the HENG LONG locating points and this is where the use of "NEO-DYMIUM magnets are so useful. You mount them on the stubs of the HENG LONG locating points fore and aft of the hull. The magnets can be found at

Both the magnets and the dealer come with my recommendation. shaun

Mike if you wish to convert your STUG to magnets this is the product numbers I think would be most useful as these magnets are pre-drilled and countersunk so they can be screwed into position, ( I have learnt the hard way that glue alone will not hold the magnets in place)
F102S and F102N -- 10mm O.D.x 3mm I.D.x 2mm
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Mike
the magnets looks like a superb idea, I may get round to that myself too,
but this is what I did with my T-34, the rear hinge is made of wire, superglued through the lower hull and a bit of putty to hold it up, has a little flex too,
the front is like RC car style,
I just pop the lid up and swap the batt out, only downside is the smoker sometimes needs teasing back between the motors
