Hey thanks for the replies, .I'm not too worried about the middle age thing..sometimes I do think about it the 40 mark mostly, as I've always seen 40 as the bench mark and it's all down hill after that ....My dad came to visit recently he's 71, he's never worried about age full of life and loves and all his hobbies..he's still cutting fish out of lumps of oak with his chainsaws..so I think hobbies certainly help keep the brain ticking over....

Cheers

Jake

I especially like the saying, "Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional."

I agree with sassgrunt. I'm going on 66 shortly, have 2 fake hips and a fake knee. I've had 2 cataracts removed and replaced so I can see clearly again. I spent 7 1/2 years in the army during the Vietnam era working on tanks, artillery small arms and optical instruments. I've driven every American vehicle of that period from every piece of armor to every wheeled vehicle up to my own 5 ton tractor trailer combo. ( the coolest thing was the gamma goat which ran like a sports car if you stayed on road). I've driven the autobahn in Germany with my first new car at over 120 MPH. Been on a huge floating manmade ocean research center in Japan. Even raced motocross when I stationed on Okinawa. Went to an airshow in England and watched a Vulcan bomber do some amazing aerobatics for such a huge aircraft. Went to Berlin when it was still a Soviet puppet state and saw the real checkpoint Charlie as it was then.
Still I feel like a kid who is still growing up (in my mind). But my body isn't listening to my mind and is wearing out much to quickly for my taste.
Someone once said that youth is wasted on the young. I think that may be true because as a young man I failed to document much of what I saw and did as I'm sure most of todays youth do.
I don't think of myself as middle age yet and probably won't until Six feet under. Even then no has come back to say that that is the end of everything.
Well I guess I've overthought this subject enough for now so I'll shut up.

42 years old and just started having problems with my feet, turns out I have bone spurs on both feet. 2 on each heal to be exact! 3 of the 4 don't bother me but MY DEAR GOD the one on the bottom of my right foot KILLS ME! And lucky me I get to walk on rocks all day for a few miles! YIPPY!! Other then that and just getting tired quicker then I used to, a 20 mile mountain bike ride used to be no big deal and I'd do that almost every weekend but now I'm lucky to get 5 in before I'm looking for a place to sit down for a break. Last time out I was coming down a VERY steep hill when my front tire fell into a small washed out part of the trail and I went right over the handlebars landed flat on my back and then had my bike flip over on me, laid there for about 15 minutes. :haha: Hurt for 4 days afterwards!

God help me in another 10 years!

Middle age is when you're too old to work and too young to retire...(You're kind of stuck in the middle)... :haha:
