Its unsuitable for the parts he'll be using it on, on the Tamiya Leo 2 there are 8 track guide wheel mounts and 10 piston housings which attach to the side of the tank and all subject to load and side ways sheering forces. I used epoxy on mine but a special ABS capable cement would probably more ideal.

Hi guys,
Well the Leopard 2 A6 arrived 10.30 this morning :D god it"s a big box. Got it from Alex-Modellbau.
Good price to £630.00. And about the ABS glue ordered that from them today as well as some extra thin glue both Tamiya. So now got to think about what upgrades to get  . Any ideas on that would most welcome. .. Brian...

Sounds complicated bill...never built a Tamiya Leo before... so not sure what parts you are speaking of....I'm just not certain why my builds were recommended as something to look at ...all I know is I've used fast setting CrC type glues since forever... even on PVC type of polymer...the only kind of plastic I don't use it on is Plexi glass...but that has it's own adhesive ... and I would never recommend using that on a model ...as it would melt a hole in it :haha: ...similar results would be had with PVC glues ...I like two part epoxies ... buy you know... I just don't use them on models....don't really care how some just stay soft...you know ...if you poke it with a scribe or something... the surface of the epoxy is never "hard" ;)

Once again using my L70 as an example.... the way I removed the dried (over three years hard) was to get an exacto chisel blade and scrape it off... it came off surprisingly easy ...this is something that would never happen with the way I have practiced using CrC type epoxy you would need a saw... and there is a good chance you would ruin or damage your saw or model ...and this is in less than 15 mins of application :D

Congrats! Oddly, its a smaller box than the other Tamiyas but the actual tank is massive. The turret alone is not far off the same length as the Tiger 1.

As for upgrades, the only 'must' is the idler upgrade. The stock one is ABS and almost everyone who has this kit recommends to swap it out for a metal one. I used the Impact version as it requires no additional working to put on.

Next would be suspension arms but they're not entirely required - I got the Impact ones for mine (mitosal.com - they use air freight fedex, so can beat standard shipping from within the UK!!). Everything else is to taste. The upgrades which bring the tank closer to being real is the MG for the gunners hatch and there is a central hook on the back. The stock version is lacking a little bit but there is a metal replacement. How important is it? Up to you! I got the MG but used the stock hook. Metal tracks? Many don't bother with this one as the stock tracks are pretty good and the metal ones require some modifications to the running gear.

The most complete sets of upgrades is from these guys: http://www.afv-model.com/4711shop/index ... _35&page=1. What I would say from building mine at the moment is make sure to get all your paints in. Its one of those kits its easier to build and paint some parts at the same time and leave off others until the very end - like the clear parts. Buy big pots of Nato green, brown and black too! I've so far painted the wheels and hull and its consumed half a 23ml pot of Tamiya Nato green even though its been thinned down.

I've never really thought of using CRC Epoxy Resin on a model - I've used it on a boat some years ago. Is it fine enough to use on small joins?

Hi Billpe
Yep going to get the paints tomorrow from TJD Models in dartford. The local hobby craft store has run out of nato black will also get the TS sprays to. Hope the glue will be here from Alex mods by the end of the week  the tank only took 3 Days. So gives me time to build the gearbox..Brian...

I wouldn't be able to say with any certainty Bill... but I pretty much use the stuff exclusively ....for small joins (not sure how small your joins are)...large seams... small imperfections in castings etc....I don't have to use any fillers because of it....and the final product is very sturdy and strong...I only wish you could see and hold my L70... it feels like a one piece casting...there is nothing on that tank that will come loose... unless of course .... I take a hammer to it ...and even then the hammer might bounce a few times :haha:

I should add...I don't use the CrCs sold in hobby shops in the large bottles...though volume wise they do seem more attractive ....I just buy the mass marketed ones like krazy glue or super glue...simply because of One...the fine applicator tip ... and Two because I get total use out of a tube... I don't ever recall ever getting full use out of a large bottle as either the tip clogs too much to be of any use... or the catalist evaporates leaving a pretty much useless gel in the bottle ;)
