The first tank I got is the taigen all metal tiger oneALPHA wrote:Markocaster wrote:I am seriously considering ditching the metal turret on my taigen and purchasing the plastic one.scalawag wrote:Yep definitely ALPHA, The metal one is almost as poor as the H/L plastic one detail wise and expensive. The "early" Tiger turrets from H/L or Taigen all need the top of the cupola turning to correct the hatch angle, but the Taigen plastic one is streets ahead in terms of detail and the crispness of the moulding. Short of buying a Tamiya, hatchette, or hobby boss turret I think it is the best you will find. It is ready to plug in from the box too.
The taigen plastic one is also great value. Welshdragon sells just the recoil unit, without the barrel or anything else for £24.99 the whole Turret is only£34.99
The metal one is heavy and clunky also harder to modify. When did you buy a metal turret?????????????????
...I almost got one... but the difficulty in modding them was definitely a concern.... and now that scalawag says they aren't that good well ...it's a big help...when the time comes the plastic Taigen now has the nod

Re: My first tank build.
It doesn't have to be wide... challenging yes... imagine what real tanks are put through... on my last most arduous portion...there is a area of soft dirt surrounded by trimmed undergrowth...it does bog a tank down.... my Jagd had problems..till I did a battery change outjackalope wrote:Ok I get the idea, I'll start on it tomorrow.
But it's fun... I've seen all kinds of stuff happen...bogies pop off ...tracks come apart etc...I just stand back and say "Cool" because of how realistic it is when it does happen...even when the tank get's bogged in the loamy soil... it becomes all apparent how some crews must have become sitting ducks because of such terrain
Have fun Jack... Good Luck

Re: My first tank build.
Ok so my new set of idler wheels just got here along with the metal mudflaps to replace the plastic ones of which I broke one running down a STEEP hill. Also got my new axles and head lamps, however the headlamps are for the LATE model Tigers not my EARLY model bad description on the IMEX website and the pic isn't that great either. So now I have a set of head lamps I have to mod but it looks rather straight forward, I'm just going to cut off the late model mount so they'll fit my upper.

Thanks Doc. I haven't started weathering it yet I figured I'd get the rest of my parts installed and painted before I took the time to weather it and give it some battle damage. Right now she's in "showroom" condition

I'm replacing the whole turret and going with metal hatches but could you be a little more clear as to what you mean? I'm a total newb and I'm not sure what you mean with your "gripe". No I'm not taking it the wrong way I look at everything I'm told as constructive because I don't know any better. I've looked at just about every one of the Tiger update threads and I alot of upgrades as money allows.
Luckily with the most expensive bits out of the way my wife doesn't have any problem with me dropping a few $$$ a week on it.

Greetings Jack... hope you don't mind me jumping in....but apparently there is a mild dislike of how Heng Long commanders hatches are situated ... the view port is not pointed forward ...reason one of the first things done is to change it out..... but you're changing yours ..so the problem is a moot subjectjackalope wrote:doc larsson wrote:my gripe (lol)

Another thing you might want to check is... make sure the new turret you have is either the late or new version...Taigen makes both...if you have the late...then the lights you have will not need to be modded...if it's the early... then yeah... do as you planned... the way to tell is the commanders hatch Ironically

Re: My first tank build.
Hallo Jack, As everyone else is tearing you to pieces!!!!!!!!!!!!
I should like to point out something that every 1/16 r/c Tiger 1 has on its hull and should not, The aerial stowage tube on the rear top side of the hull is only on the left rear (looking from the front) but TAMIYA, TORRO, TAIGEN, HENG LONG and everyone I have missed out all have one on EACH side, it can be a bit of a pain to remove, but if you don't want some ten year old smart a*se pointing it out it is better off than on, there now you feel much better? In truth you are doing a lovely job, and we all know how challenging any build is let alone when all the knowalls are looking over your shoulder.

I think I am about to upset someone
