Yep they do a proportional one too:

Although the pages I have posted say that these are H/L they are actually have Taigen stamped on them. They have a less delicate element and do to me seem much more robust. They are still prone to overfilling, but I do find them much much more reliable. They are quieter than the black ones too which is a bonus.

I think the proportional board is the same as the H/L one you already have so you might be able to save yourself a few quid by buying the basic ones and using the proportional control boards you have. I think it should work.

It makes me wonder why the proportionals are so much quieter... can't be the circuitry ... and they use the same motors...I wish I could figure that one out

All of these clear plastic ones are quieter than the black ones, not just the proportional ones but the standard ones are too. I think they have a better quality motors in them.

That must be it... I played with the gears .... it didn't really make a difference ...interesting though... will have to see if they have those clear ones in the states... shipping from Germany would be killer :O ...even on a small item like that ;)

Unfortunately I have not come across them anywhere else, I always get mine from rctank.de. If I do come across them stateside I'll let you know. Just a thought but I wonder if IMEX do them as a spare as they are the US Taigen importer aren't they?

You have a great weekend too

I wouldn't be sure Scalawag...I think they are... but If they are on the East Coast...sometimes they don't send to Hawaii... don't ask me why...because a flat rate box is a flat rate box ...so I think shopping Ebay and finding a China or Taiwan seller might be the best way for me to go... things from there get here faster believe it or not...sometimes less than a week ;)

Thanks for the tip

OK... I found my clear smoker lol... this is my rough evaluation....appearance wise...it does look more durable... the plastic is thicker ...definitely a different compound than the black smokers...I couldn't check if the element was thicker... because unlike the black smokers... you cannot access that area of the smoker....The wick was different... that was visibly more bulky...having two heavy circular braids instead of the flat braid ....I didn't detect much difference in the sound... maybe just a little ...but I attribute that to the heavier casing

All in all... I'm not sure it's worth the extra cost to do the change out.... I can get four normal black ones for under 25 dollars US.... and two proportional for less

My conclusion is it all boils down to knowing the limits of that little mechanism.... and knowing it's maintenance intervals...meaning keeping the tank properly "juiced"

My two restored Pershings still have the old Heng Long system in them...original smokers and all... both smoke like nobody's business...One smokes like a super smoker...what can I say..that one is a freak :O

So It's really up to you Apple... me I would just replace it with another stock smoker... and just make sure when you are playing with your tank... remember when you last filled the reservoir tank..and watch the time ....According to the manual ...one fill should last up to two hours of play....that's with the stock battery...if you have upgraded your battery... that would mean the element gets more power as well..so will burn the liquid faster ;) ...I usually add a drop or two after 15 mins as I run LIPOs

Good Luck Apple

Hi Alpha,

Im sorry you did not find this an improvement. I have found them superior enough that I swap them out now as a matter of course. I always find the H/L ones pack up rather quickly usually the fragile element breaks. These on the other hand seem to just keep working, and only die if overfilled (can just dry the wick out then though and they work again) .

I also like the filler cap on the top so that you can inject the smoke oil straight into the chamber, and can see how much has gone in. The clear plastic helps with not overfilling too.

On not being able to access the element, are you able to remove the element and wick from the smoke chamber? The ones I use have 4 screws on the top of the smoke chamber the same as the H/L ones do. They are basically the same unit, but the quality of the materials used are far superior. Does yours have Taigen marked on the top of the gearbox housing? I wonder if this is the same unit as I am using?

Take care

No appologies Scalawag... It's just my opinion....It's still really up to Apple....I too like the idea of the clear plastic...but like anything... weighing the pros and cons ... I'm just not sure the price is worth the upgrade....but I guess it has to be taken in from all perspectives... yours have served you well... the black ones have served me pretty well too... but I think we both are very careful in the general care when it comes to filling them... I've only had one fail...and it was totally my fault as I messed with the wick and probably disconnected the element somehow lol...at that time I panicked like Apple thinking they were expensive to replace...have since found differently..and actually have a few spare ....I still thank you for all the great advice about the clear models..... I just didn't realize I had one :haha: ...as I was going to try and order one

Bottom line for me is... they are definitely a tad more solid ...and the thicker plastic does add a little more soundproofing...it just comes down to justifying the price ...as I really feel longevity is in the hands of whomever owns it :D

Thanks again Scalawag... hopefully we helped Apple instead of compounding his problem lol
