Thanks for the complement on my KT, Saxon. After repainting in spots several times it came out with a very abstract but natural look, like this is how a KT would look after a month or two in the weather of the Eastern front or France.

and You're right alpha. I went way overboard on the King tiger and spent lots of money i don'
t really have-much of it wasted on things that didn't work, didn't fit and couldnt be returned...the KT, although i do love how the paint came out and the mods i made-taught me to be more conservative...I tried fitting the steel gearboxes that cost lots of money, then when i went to put them in the motors banged together too much and wouldnt fit!

I miked both motor diameters they are virtually identical dont know what the problem is. In frustration i just put the old nylon ones back in. Because they worked...things like that i must have wasted $200 on useless bits for the KT. On the tiger i'm waiting for a zimmerit set and after that i'll paint, waiting for a metal idlers set and a spare transmitter. (I guess i could have waited on the transmitter) but i'm going lots slower on this one and spending less (i hope),

Hello Mark... if you want to give those steel gearboxes another go ... as they should fit whether they be taigen or heng long ... is to pre fit each side ...making sure the plastic pins on the hull line up with the corresponding holes on the gearbox frames...if they don't line up well... a reaming with an oversize drill bit usually solves the problem
The other thing to remember is not to tighten any of the screws when installing them...drop the left side in first...rough align it ..as you will have to jiggle it around a little for the right gearbox to drop in...it's usually the protruding axles that prevent the assemblies from fitting into the hull

It's a little tricky at first... but with a little wiggling and jiggling they usually drop in line up the pins again then tighten down with a magnetic screwdriver
Just don't let any frustrations bog you down... they will fit

Enjoy yourself.. have fun ;)

Happy Tanking Mark

Well larry I added a hull brace, and painted the tracks rust and silver...

After this picture I used silver paint to highlight the wear areas of the treads. It's a snap, I turned the tank upside down and ran the brush as the treads moved, oila' contact areas silver.

I'm waiting on a zimmerit set from welsh dragon and after that will paint it the usual sand with brown and green airbrushed. I intend on this one, unlike my king tiger, to not start changing things until they break! I posted in the electronics section how getting a new transmitter showed me i had blamed the wrong parts for my KT's failure...it was the transmitter not the board!

the most important and expensive lesson learned and that i'd like to pass on to EVERYONE buying these modestly priced big tanks- NEVER EVER REMOVE THE BATTERIES BY SLAPPING THE TRANSMITTER BOX...."HANDLE LIKE EGGS" As the saying goes!
Also i improved the contact of the batteries, by grinding out the plastic molded AA battery seperators in the battery bay of the transmitter. Notice you've never seen another battery bay molded with battery seperators like that, well i figure that must be because if you do the thing DOESN'T WORK.

The proof is the tank would stop and then i removed the battery bay cover, and fiddled with the batteries and the tank would invariably come back to life. And this goes whether the light on the trans box is on or not too...perhaps its an antenna issue too, i never did install the antenna as designed. I will fix that with the KT and the tiger, i sent away for antenna wire and will install an internal antenna not that factory Eye poker device.

Thanks Marc,

I'll be looking forward to more updates on this guy... I'll look to update mine to battle, so some upgrades will be coming down the pike - As its an early Tiger I think I'm going to go Africa or Sicily with the camo - No Zim for me on this one.... 8)
