The Sherman is now Olive Drab again. I just have to reassemble the turret and then figure out if I want to do some subtle colour modulation or not. At the moment having just had to re-finish due to a cock up I am thinking leave well alone. The transfers I ordered have not turned up yet. Plan is now to do it as representing a Russian sherman simply because i have no intention of having another waterslide transfer cock up and I cannot find any appropriate FFF dry transfers. What i have arriving is a set of Soviet dry rub slogans and also a Heng Long KV1 transfer/sticker sheet. i will try and come up with something looking convincingly Soviet with one or the other or perhaps a combination of the two.

Got a better finish on the Olive Drab this time by using light coats of paint thinned a fair bit more than I have in the past and sprayed at a lower pressure.

Here it is in all its Olive Drab glory..........Image
I now eagerly await the delivery of the transfers. At a later date I am going to do a CannedHeat style mantlet conversion and use an HL pziii gun barrel as per Fynsdad's suggestion. For now it has to be the 105mm though. having made the turret capable of 360 degree rotation i am now looking into a slip-ring setup to avoid tangled wires. Will post a piccy when the slip ring is finished.

The first of the transfer sheets arrived today so here it is with some Soviet markings:

I know they are really for a kv1 but they seem to fit the bill. I have no idea whatsoever what the markings mean and have tried google to find out but to no avail.

Thanks Alpha. For some reason i wanted to do something different rather than use US markings. I may be in minority of one on this but the Heng Long transfers work well for me. Guess it sure is different but I hope it does not offend the purists and, from what i have read, the Russians were supplied with approx 7,000 shermans under lend-lease. Next cosmetic job will be to start work on the stores it will carry. These projects never seem to end. As soon as I start to think 'done' another idea crops up.

Canned - I plan to order a spare mantlet next week and start work on it.
