Heng Long Sherman
Re: Heng Long Sherman
Thanks Alpha
I fitted the bar because I got the gun elevation servo wire caught up in the turret rotation gear and obviously had to cure that problem.
Have been working on the Sherman but have not done anything worthy of a photograph. I need to get some filler when i can next get out of the house. Hopefully early next week. Being disabled i cannot get out and about very much so I tend to take a very long while to get things done. Ah well - onward and hopefully upward...............

Just to let you know... I liked the idea so much I copied it on my KV the hull is so tight... that bar is a perfect addition it keeps things from tangling together especially with the rerouting of my smoker unitcupoftea wrote:Thanks Alpha

Had a bit of a lucky break - i found some milliput i had forgotten about in a cupboard. Anyway - I have started to put some weld beads onto the tank:

Hi cupoftea,
..............I agree with ALPHA I really like the 'Wire Centre Bar' that you made for the turret. Ideas are always welcome
.
Please can you explain in more detail about the 'Hybrid' control system that you have created for the Sherman ?

Hi Dietrich
The 'hybrid' system basically uses a pair of MTroniks speed controllers to control the tank's motion - one for each motor. The reason i did this was that I found that the twin speed control mixed using my transmitter's elevon mix gave very fine control and the tank just behaved a lot more like a tank. i call it a hybrid because it still uses the RX 18 to provide sound and main gun muzzle flash, To get the RX 18 to work with 2,4ghz radio I used an RC5HL from RC tanks Australia, The RC5HL allows the use of of an RX18 with a hobby grade radio such as futaba. Problem was that in order to work correctly the RC5hl needs to have five channels connected to it. You cannot disconnect say channel 3 and have it work. To get around this I used Y leads between the receiver and the RC5HL so that I would have a signal going to the speed controllers, gun elevation etc. In the picture you will see a third speed control - this controls turret rotation so that I have a very fine degree of control over turret rotation and can vary the rotation speed. I am pretty sure that an IBU2 or Clark board would do the job just as well but I had the bits to hand so basically went for it. For me it also has the advantage that I can make my own control stick assignments so, for example, channel 6 now controls main gun elevation.

Phew - just finished adding weld beads to all the handles and lifting hoops etc. Worth doing but it is enough to send a chap nutso,
Have been looking at pictures of the full size and realise that i have a lot more welding detail to add just yet. problem is knowing where to stop........................
Sherman tanks have an 'agricultural' look that is, to me, a large part of the charm and I want to try and capture that in the model.
The welding on the full size is well illustrated in this picture;

Ah well. Another boring weld bead picture.
Have drilled some weep/drainage holes in the appropriate places and have made a start on the seam weld beading.

Re: Heng Long Sherman
I really like that elevation servo set up. Like you said, simple. I may have to use some of that tech in my future Sherman.
Re: Heng Long Sherman
Ah well back on the Sherman at last. Spent a whole day today re hashing the electrical system (it's a long story.......) and also fitting some steel 4:1 gearboxes. Nothing worthy of a photo just yet but more work to follow later this week.
