There are some solutions to the WSN gearboxes but I won't be trying any until I blow them out running. The improvement in adding the metal plate was to increase the weight of the vehicle to provide more traction grip and it did work so that is why I am going to do it to the HL too. The additional structural strength was just an added benefit.

Trust me I am a newbie at this RC tank thing but over 40 years I have built A LOT of models and like to try things... :D

I await your Metal track testing regime... B|

I've seen what some people have done to the WSN.... but none of the solutions involved that final plastic gear that is connected to the drive sprocket...It's so close to the wall of the hull...and pressed together it just looks to complicated to deal with... I do have an Idea of using Airsoft.gears... but the centering becomes an issue...so it's still in the planning stage...and not a priority now that I have the HENG LONG

By the way... I noticed you broke the grab handle on the rear engine hatch as well.. :haha: ...mine snapped off straight out of the box lol...my thumb just brushed up against it and it was history :haha:

did you rewire the machine gun? dang I just can't handle that ...it drives me nuts

Well dgsselkirk... I'm not sure about those tracks...as I've been in contact with that company for a week + (they respond every two days  )and just got a message that they just sent it out friday :'( ...I think they're giving me the go around ...

On an up note... I did order the full metal version of the T34... once again .. I must say.. I should have waited...The new version is much improved...as it sits just a tad higher than the WSN...unlike the old model that sat much higher

Anyway... these guys at MIDEATECH are awesome... as I ordered it less than a week ago and arrived yesterday :D ...so if anyone is in the market for the T34... or any other HENG LONG... I'd say these guys are the best ...communications are fantastic.. less than a day and you have an answer

They are the real deal ... and take care of business great bunch there at MIDEATECH

There are a couple of guys online selling metal gears and not at a bad price. I have considered them...
I have done nothing cosmetically to the tank yet. All handles will be replaced with brass rod. Yes, my friend MichaelC (electronic wiz who is on here too) rewired everything with a clark board so machine gun works on a switch on my Turnigy. Awesome!
I wouldn't woory too much about your tracks. Chances are they didn't have them in stock and had to order them from main supplier. IF the tracks prove to be an issue you can try Matomart here in Canada...

Hey there dgsselkirk...I saw those metal gears the other night.... I think it was on WELSH DRAGON'S site...thing I found about those is they still don't replace that final drive gear connected to the drive sprocket :'( That's the one that bothers me....that and the skinny rod that supports both the gear and the drive sprocket...I think I've seen only one guy do a completed mod...using four HENG LONG gearboxes..there wasn't much detail given... but he must have had at least six channels to operate the tank... and to be honest... more than I'd want to put into a toy tank ...though what he did I thought was pretty clever... as that was the only mod I've seen where he was able to get rid of that final plastic gear

Anyway... I'm not going to worry about it ...because now I have two HENG LONGS :haha: ...and the new version is way better than the old... the new one I got has the metal gears drivers and tracks..... sits almost perfect... took it on a test drive today... running it through my torture test....and I will go as far to say.. it is the best rear wheel driven tank I have to date :D ...I did do the spring switch that Phil posted... it actually helped the poor track design HENG LONG has as the flexing of the bogies would do the adapting....it climbed one of the most daunting barriers ...so at the moment I am very pleased.... and will probably proceed with that one.. before the one I had before...as I await the tracks
I do think that company is ok.... I just don't like the way they handle business much.... waiting for a reply that comes every TWO DAYS?..I'm not saying it's fishy... but it's a little disconcerting ...almost like they are slapping you in the face saying HA HA we got your money... LA TEE DA...(RCD "is" MATOMART)..you're lucky... because you are there

Very unlike MIDEATECH...who answers daily...shows they really care about their customers.. and believe in their product and how it's distributed ...This is the third tank I got from them...and the person I conversed with was very friendly ...even when I found there wasn't a tracking number on this tank...but when I sent a message regarding that... they not only replied right away... when I plugged the number into the USPS service... it was here already :haha: ..suffice to say I was pretty stoked ...the machine gun didn't work ... but that was an easy fix... one line to the LED was disconnected...a touch with an iron and it was working perfectly

I have to admit it the tracks were as mundane as the plastic ones... footprint wise.. but that's not their fault...the spring switch that Phil suggested ... as I mentioned before...pretty much was the cure for the bad tracks...not to mention the new profile HENG LONG has done ...because now it sits perfectly along side the WSN
Seems a lot of homework was done on HENG LONG's part because "visibly" I can't tell what they did to drop the hull...and because of MIDEATECH I'm glad I got the second one...
I learned a lot.... one how great it is to deal with a reliable seller....and how HENG LONG stays on their toes... to constantly monitor and make corrections to their products..aesthetically and mechanically ...without compromising their price ceiling

Basically leaving the cosmetics to be done...and now that I have this one.... She'll be showing soon :D

Hello again dgsselkirk... These are pictures of the new HENG LONG I got... unfortunately the metal tracks that came on the tank have the same footprint as the plastic ones

as you can see they are relatively flat... with hardly any grippers ...but using them in combination with Dr Phil's prescription of switching the springs.. made them perform like how they are supposed to :D
