Biggest motors on HL gearboxes?

Post by wibblywobbly »

I am wondering whether to fit bigger motors to my Tiger, and then transferring the Graupner 400's to my Bulldog. Size, mounting, shaft diameter and pinions seem to be the obstacles.

Has anyone fitted larger motors, and if so how did you do it? I am running Elmod kit in the Tiger so 540's are theoretically possible....but will they fit??

Cheers

Heck, you couldn't get a cigarette paper through there could you?  :o

Which motors are they, and did they make a difference?

Nope, real tight
Multiplex/Permax 480 7,2 V

Check Swathdivers excellent threads at RCU:  http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_58761 ... ey_/tm.htm
Check out post #45

Another one: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_65823 ... ey_/tm.htm

Swathdiver used Jamara 480 if I remember right. Those are a better choice than the Multiplex/Permax (more rpm)

If they make a difference? Tiger will climb up your leg ;D

Those are an interesting couple of threads. The view seems to be that Graupner 400's on a standard board will blow it, however a friend has Protech 400's in his Pershing with an RX14, and has ranted it for an hour in the woods in an attempt to get something to explode...but nothing did? Maybe he is lucky??  ;)

Putting the Graupners in my Bulldog/metal gearboxes/tracks is a free swap for me, and getting the Jamara's for the Tiger (which now weighs about 10lbs) should be ok as the Elmod will handle them.

Where did I put that credit card?  :-[

hi guys
i'm using jamara 480 hs bb motors http://alshobbies.com/shop/lookupstock. ... 5916&Desc= you can get then here, i got to say since ive been using them(18monthes)they are the dogs danglies, they got a shed load of torque and are a good quality motor, i got mine from nigel my mate. i am using elmod along side them, but they seem to work ok with HL boards as long as youre tank aint to heavy, its worth saying that using 3.1 boxes with these motors is just the right thing to do, the motors spin to about 17.500rpm so the reduction gear slows them down abit, but gives them more torque than you really need in a tank!

Tony - I see that these motors are tagged as Lipo. Are these ok for NiMh batteries, I am just wondering if there is any difference? I can get hold of standard 480 Pro HS 7.2V motors for £3 each, so it may be worth going for those?

hi rob, yes they are fine with nimh battries thats what i'm using, they are tagged "lipo", but i'm not sure why, probably because they were designed with lipo's in mind, i got these motors from my mate nigel, and i'm glad i did, the dogs danglies, i've never tried the standard 480 hs pro motors, so i cant say what they are like, but i'm sure they would be fine also

Hi all, resurrecting an old thread here (well, not that old) does anyone have an opinion on these? http://www.westbourne-models.com/erol.html#1727x0&&http%3A%252F%252Fwww.google.co.uk%252Fsearch%3Fhl%3Den%26q%3Dmtronik%26btnG%3DGoogle+Search%26meta%3Dcr%253DcountryUK%257CcountryGB

I was looking at the mtronik 400 (second one down)

Now that I have got one of the Tiger's open, I want to do as much as I can to improve performance/reliability as I rebuild it..

Ta muchly

;)
HL Tiger x2 (one that didn't bounce very well!), HL Pz III x2 (one non-smoker); HL Stug III; HL PzIV and want an HL Jagdpanther.
