Post by madmonk25 »

hi all. i am new to rc tanks so this is my first tank. theres some things i need to understand about this tank. so if someone as one please help.not sure how long to charge the battery for ?its a sc 200 omah 7.2v battery.i did charge it for 3-4 hours.then i got the tank going everything worked ok for 5mins then it just stopped i just got the engine sound and that was that. so now put battery back on charge for the night. i have in mind to get a bigger battery for it but not sure how big i can go with out frying the motor and everything eles .plus because i have had it a day. but i also plan to get a fast charge for it too. so if anyone can tell me what battery best to get and what fast charger to buy please .

Hi madmonk25,
Welcome to the Forum
The time taken to charge your battery will depend on the power of the 'trickle charger' that came with it. There should be a label that has something like 500mAh or 250mAh on it. This will indicate the power of the standard charger. If say it is a 500mAh then I think that you simply divide the capacity of the battery ...so in your case 2000 by 500 and the result is 4 ....so it will take 4 hours to charge the battery, probably a bit more than that in reality due to it probably not being as good as the charger says on the label.
There will be other people with different opinions......but I Do Not like LiPo batteries...they are too complicated and require chargers and monitors so I stick to NI-MH I have a 3600 and a 5300mAh these work very well and I bought a specific fast charger for them called a 'Pro-Peak varipulse' This can fast cgarge the batteries at up to 3 Amps when set to the fast setting and then once the battery is charged it sounds an alarm for about 16 seconds and then drops back into 'Trickle-Charge' mode to preserve the now 'Full' battery. I hope that this helps. There are probably better chargers available now but when I bought it, it was a very good charger! I will see if it is still made and add a link to this if I find it.

   hello mate your best bet is to get a 3000 NI-MH battery easy to find on e/bay and your standard charger will be ok over night charging but if like me you dont trust these units just look for a tryed and tested make like annsman also on e/bay fast chargers burn batts out over time so a steady charge is best for long life. theres a forum on here elecs which has more info on all sorts of power and battery combos hope this helps

Hi madmonk25,
Sorry about my First post changing I was editing it when the second post arrived........ :haha:
This is the link to the chargers instructions.......At the 3 Amp setting it does not seem to be damaging my batteries but I do often just trickle charge them over-night, so that may help...

I would put the battery on charge over night making sure that the battery is not covered and try it again in the morning. Most toys that come with re-chargable batteries and even electric tooth brushes need the first charge to be a long one to 'start' the battery ......so that might also be worth a try. :)

ok its on charge .it will be on all night any way. but i will be getting couple of batteries for it plus a better charger for a start .its not a bad tank for the money.the only issue i have with it is the turret wich is a bit loose. but see somewhere one line that someone put cable ties to tighten it up. but might make a plastic washer to sort that out
