5 foot off tank reception

i took out the crystals for my tamiya king kitty to put in my tiger 1 using the same handset 40mhz and im getting hardly no recption on both at all ive tried everything rerouting the cable joining it in different parts of the aerial still nothing so ive bought another set of crystals and a different transmitter and reciever to try to remedy the problem,does anyone know what this could be ,i mean ive had heng longs that can out run my king tiger ...thats embarrasing

did you look at the 2.4ghz link i sent you mate because for some reason beyond my thinking i wiped all settings for my tiger1 with the futaba tx so took the 2.4 out of my king t and put in tiger 1 and wow just as good as in kt mate these are a good rc set up
