Heng Long King Tiger w\Porsche Turret

Post by PainlessWolf »

Good Evenin',
4+ months mostly waiting for parts since once I started the mod I kept thinking along the lines of "wouldn't this be neat to add?" It's finished now. Factory fresh in dull coat and HL's original paint job that I only modded slightly in a couple of places. I'll add the Loader's hatch hand wheel if I ever find one at a reasonable rate. In other KT threads I put up some pics of parts, the work I did on grab handles, the headlight, antenna mod, the rear mud guard mod and some aggravation over aftermarket suspension arms being too long to work with the metal tracks, idlers and sprockets. The only things I want to direct attention to here, mod wise, one can't be seen (adding 4 self adhesive small, round plastic sliders to the turret race to raise it a tiny bit to clear the taller Tamiya lift hooks on the rear deck plus smooth the rotation out) and the other using the Tamiya mg42 air self defense machine gun instead of the mg34 and building a swivel both ways mount for it out of sprue plus two bolt heads I cut from extra tow shackles and made into caps. The rest is pretty standard stuff. Mesh Grill covers, metal tow shackles, drilled the bow machine gun so when it fires, it lights up in a red circle like a muzzle flash, painted mix of Tamiya and Heng Long tools and add ons. It runs great and looks killer on display. I am content. :o) Thanks again for all the encouragement. Let me know if you like what I've done or not and why.
Regards,
Painless

Hi, I'm building a HL King Tiger from scratch and I'm drawing a blank with the screws and washers for putting it all together. Anybody have any ideas????

Thanks

Good Afternoon,
Apologies for resurrecting such an old Show- Off thread but Alpha's receipt of his incredibly nice and new HL King Tiger had me out and running mine this afternoon. The sun was out and the grass was green and spiky, perfect for a couple extra pictures of my own heavy duty German war machine. Oddly enough, after a few years, the paint ( with flats applied ) is growing on me. Highly anticipated by many when it was announced, this tank was one of the first builds I tried when I joined the Forum. It is definitely worth revisiting with a 2.4GHz set, black steel gears, a stronger battery and more realistic paint. Pics:

Painless,

Still looks great. I wasn't on the forum then so didn't see the initial thread. I have to say that I also have a love for that stock HL tri-colour camo. I kept mine on my Panther as well with a dull coat and some weathering and off it goes.

Michael,
Thank you! I was finding my way with this one and used components from Asiatam and Henntec ( metal swingarms and Idler brace adjuster) that took extra work to mate up with the HL metal tracks, sprockets and idlers. The result was worth it as running this tank is like watching Wagnerian Opera in motion. A great show of grinding, clanking menace. ;o) *chuckles* This was one of the few tanks that HL brought out with an aluminum barrel back then so the airgun in it is very good. Even the springs on this tank can be adjusted in stiffness with detents drilled out from the factory. That's advisable with all the weight the metal adds to it. I was very impressed with the overall tank and still am so upgrades are coming down the road here soon. Alpha is absolutely going to love his.

Alpha,
Enjoy when you do. You will have a much easier time of it than me. HL has their full run of stuff out for it now as do other companies. This tank is _so_ worth it tho'. ;o)

:haha: :haha: Not so easy Painless... remember it has to fit the GIRLS UND PANZER blueprint... so it has to go the way of a Henschel ...so basically totally striping the Heng Long and retro fitting it into a Tamiya chassis

sounds Crazy...but that's how I roll :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:

Happy Tanking Painless Image
