What batteries do you use?

Post by Crispy »

Just wondering what people use in their tanks. Are we're all running 7.2v or has anyone tried something different?

In the tanks & r/c cars I run with 7.2v 3300mah batts that seem to last forever. Easily out did everyone else on our morning patrol run in the cold Surrey air, must've lasted a good 40 mins of running over the 1.5hrs we were there and its still going strong.

I also dont fast charge them but i use a charger I got when I started airsofting some years ago. First I use a battery discharger to run it fully down and then charge it from empty. It'll charge the above battery in 8hrs so i usually set it to run over night, so far they havent let me down.

Just wondered if running a lower voltage is an effective way of reducing the speed or is it under powered and just drains the battery quickly.

hi nic i am using 7.2v proffitex 4350mah batteries, i got them off ebay, £25 for 2, they last for ages, way more than the standard HL batteries, they are supposed to be sintered cells whatever that means, i dont fast charge them like you, but i dont always discharge them, to lazy ;D ;D, but they are nimh batteries, so battery memory isnt so much a problem. in katies T34 however i have a 9.6v nicad battery pack what came with the tank, its only 600mah but it runs for quite some time, a good 1/2hour on rough ground(our garden) the T34 also runs with HL boards inside, and so far(18monthes)the 9.6v battery hasnt blown the boards

I use packs from these guys - http://www.all-battery.com/72vrccarbatterypacks.aspx
I mostly have the 3800mAH NiMH's, but some 4200mAH and a pair of the 4500mAH packs. Be warned that the HL tigers cannot accomodate anything longer than the 3800, the others are just that little bit longer (unless you remove the battery box - in which case its not an issue  ;) )
Their rapid chargers are also pretty good, tho I can't get them to work with the 4500mAH packs - and their tech support hasn't responded to my email asking for help with this.

I use anything from 1800 up to 2600 but it depends on how many tanks you have the more the smaller the battery that you require as after 30 mins you will get bored, Matt if you use a Y lead with your 4600 battery you will find that the tank will have a  run time only slightly less than having 2 batteries, Tiger I has the same DmD and MF unit as Tiger II the Tiger II has a Y lead and only 1 battery where the Tiger I has no Y lead and 2 batteries swapping over to a Y lead will give you a spare battery for another tank
