Filling the standard Smoke unit

Post by Silverstalker »

Years ago I got hold of a smoking HL B-dog and filled the smoker up with the fluid, it worked for a day or two then broke.. thing is I put 'most' of the fluid into it down the clear pipes... would this have burnt it out or something?

so I am going to get the speed activated unit off E-bay but how much fluid do I have to put in them pipes exactly? and is it true that regular baby oil works just aswell??

Cheers Craig

If you overfill with smoking fluid it stops working because the heater wire is in the fluid and is heating it all up and not vaporising it from the wick which is what produces the smoke, the bottom of the wick needs to be in the fluid but the top where the heater wire is should be out of the fluid for it to work, if using the Heng Long bottles of fluid there are marks on the bottle side so don't put more than two of the marks on the bottle side into the smoker.

You can use baby oil, but I found it a bit thicker than the Heng Long oil and did not travel up the wick as well, I am currently experimenting with various mixtures to thin it with lamp oil or barbecue lighting fluid as that is what some of the train / boat modelers use.

You can either drain it out a bit or let it sit and eventually it will dry itself out.

One trick I found was to drain as much of it out.... then make some jumpers and hook the battery directly to the smoker and let it go for awhile...I used a 11.4 :haha: man did those suckers pour out some smoke... even found one that I thought was broken because of overfilling still worked :haha: not too long though those elements get hot... one almost melted the plastic :O ................ :haha: :haha: :haha:
