Hello , Im Pete

I was introduced to RC tanks whilst working in a customers home, who had a large collection . I was impressed by the level of details in these models (including the sound boards , smoke etc) .

Up until recently I raced 1/8th nitro offroad buggies and trucks at club and regional level in the UK . I now have a baby on the way and cannot justify the cost of racing ..or the weekends away . My favourate part of the hobby was building the kits and maintaining and setting up the cars to suit each track . Spending the saturdays selecting the right tyre and insert combo and setting up the diffs and shock oil spring settings, roll center etc etc was great . I miss the racing a lot but the tanks seem like a great way for me to stay in the RC scene .

I also enjoyed airbrushing the RC shells and the detail on the tanks is awesome and would allow me to keep both hobbies going aswell .

I really look forward to reading through the forum and researching the different types of models before I purchase anything ( the 8th scale nitro scene is a minefield of what to buy and what not to buy ) so I want to be prepared

Imnot an RC beginer , but I am a complete novice with tanks

Hi there and welcome to our forum!! There is lots of roads you can go down getting a tank! You can start with a heng long tank and slowly upgrade it as you go . Or you can splash out on a tamiya full option tank that will get you into tank battleing straight away! If I was you I would buy a second hand tamiya full option tank you can get them for as little as £200 and they are well worth the money!! If you want to go down the heng long road you will end up spending double on what you would get in a tamiya tank!! With heng long your stuck with the transmitter that it comes with! And if you wanted to up grade to say 2.4ghz or a hand set with more channels you would have to spend at least £200 swapping all the radio gear in the tank!! Hope that helps you a bit! Everyone has there own opinion on whats the best way but that's what I have learned!! Basically getting a tamiya is like getting the latest spec Rc car to race with!! Rite I've said my bit lol oh and befor I go were abouts are you north or south! Gary.

Im in Ayrshire Scotland .

Il go with the tamiya kit . will these come with a tranny and receiver and batteries etc . No big deal if they dont

If you buy second hand it will but if you go for a new one the basically the kit will come with motors gearboxes turret rotation motor. Gun elevation motor and gun barrel recoil action with gun flash! Allso an electronic speed controller and a multifunction unit that basicsly every thing plugs into! Allso I speaker in it's own bass box! All you will need is to get a four channel transmitte and reciverr like a spectrum dx61! And a 7.2 volt battery the stick type same as in the 1/10 Rc cars!

Ive just had a look ...il need my own radio gear . thats cool . Should be able to get hold of a used futaba 6 channel i think .

We have started an Rc tank club here in Manchester in Hyde we have a meet once a month so when you get your tank sorted your welcome to come and join us it's indoor but we are working building a battle field out side were we have a large grassed area! Oh if you want to infra red battle you will need to allso buy the tamiya battle system for the tank these are around £50 pounds

Ok buddy good look in your tank search ! There had been a few on eBay this month! Just make sure it's a full option tank !! Some of the first ones dident have sound and were just two channel and not four! And keep checking the for sale section on here members sometimes have them on to sell!
