Hatch help!!

Post by slaychild »

I see some people have cut out the HL hatches to replace with metal ones that open. How do they cut them out? Any help would be great. PS, just got my second tank, a HL Tiger 1. Now two projects, lol.

A popular method is the thread method to saw through the plastic. I haven't a link to guide but if you search you tube there is a few tutorial vids there.

When I removed the front hatches on my Tiger I couldn't get enougth clearance so ended up drilling them out with a 25mm hole saw then demeled out the left over bits. You'll also need to enlarge the hole for the hatches to fit in as the plastic hole is a bit small.

Try Tips and Tricks. Saxondog has a good post on hatch removal in this post on page 2

Notice the drivers opening is out of shape, began that removal with a dremal. The radio operators opening is near perfect, that was done with thread. Just go slow, the thread does cut very quickly.

I have removed the Paint tins and am lining the opening with some metal sheet to create the lips. At the time the tins seemed like a good idea, but their to high and the hinges drag on the opening at times. I have broken the driver hatch twice now.

Here is the link as referenced by Panther Ausf G . Kite string works best. Saxondog
