P/E on Tamiya Full option Tiger I

Post by Steelhammer »

I'm planning to use an Aber full photo etch set on my tamiya tiger 1 - if I am running the model will this present any problems....I feel a bit daft asking but I don't want any bits dropping off it.

The more scale you go the more there is to damage if you just are doing a scale model that can be run fine if you are going to run it on the rough and knock in to things then you need to cut back on scale fittings
It is not the pace of life that worrys me, its the sudden stop at the end.

 hi yes i agree with huntpe1 i put ammo boxes drums and grills on my kt they kept coming off so super glued them on because she still goes round the garden and park.if you want to put drums on i drilled out a hole in mine not all the way ,glued a small bolt into it and it fits just fine in the back grates on my kt or tiger 1
fetch me the kitty's lets go to war

I don't plan to run it into things at all - I've only had 1 experience of using photo etch though and that was an eduard kit and it was a real pain to get the stuff to stick. I planned to get a static tiger 1 to put this kit on but of course as soon as I had the money to do it they stopped selling the kit. I think that would be my preferred option anyway.

Like most pe manufecturers Aber being one of the best. they put a lot of parts in their sets many of these parts could really do to be made of something more solid from scratch. Aber make all the bits you might need but you dont have to use them all. Bigger pe parts can be soldered to strengthen them smaller parts can be cynoed but anything you stick on can be knocked off. the big disadvantage of pe is its flat so can be limiting

Thanks for your replies guys. I would rather have used the PE set on a tank thats not going to be trundling around but I can't find a tamiya static tiger I now - looks like I've missed the boat so when I get around to it I am going to use this kit on my full options version and hope for the best. Yet again it's a classic case of while I couldn't afford it, it's there in abundance....as soon as I can afford it - they stop making it! Oh well

I hope so Nick. The aber photo's of the PE on a tiger had me drooling so it should come out well. I am going to finish my King tiger revamp first to make sure that I am back in the swing of things before I risk messing any of it up.

just my two pennies worth. got my KT that i'm going to detail so-so, and going to battle. going to get a tiger and go all out on it. not going to be a shelf queen as i want to run it, but not going to battle as i dont want bitss coming off.comes down to is it a battle tank or a looking good tank. going to be vain and say the tiger will be in the latter cat. either way enjoy building it.

Thanks Jeff, the way I'm thinking is if I do a good job on putting the PE kit on, I will make certain that it doesn't get any rough treatment. I will have it trundle around from time to time but no rough stuff!
