Dulling shiny plastic?
Hey guys,
I was wondering. How do you go about dulling shiny plastic? I have a KV1 on the way, and already I don't like how shiny it is. I thought about some high grain sand paper or steel wool. Any suggestions?

I have the KV1 as well. It's best to repaint it ( prime, then paint) and you won't see the shinny plastic anymore.
Re: Dulling shiny plastic?
Did you use rattle cans? Also, what paint and colors did you use?
Re: Dulling shiny plastic?
imo its worth it to get a airbrush kit( gun and compressor) if you are planing on following this hobby then you can layor and mix colours to your taste. If not, think about some flat clear acrilic in a can....do a couple thin coats, the flat in the spray will take away the shine.
Re: Dulling shiny plastic?
I just use Humbrol Acrylic matt spray paint tins. No primer needed, leaves a good matt surface.

Front Tiger has metal barrel and simply two coats. Back Tiger two coats of sand. Ropes on both mud clour spray to give a rusted metal look.

I used cheap no name acrilic paints in bottles from One Dollar Store. I mixed the bright green & black to give me a darker green color like you see in my pictures, and used brown for the weathering, and painted with cheap brush ( bought from the same store). The prime coat I got from Auto Shop store in spray can ( again cheaper than in hobby store). I also used rust paint and metal gun paint from Tamiya as well. The final coat was a clear matt finished. Give it a try and have fun with it.TankOCD wrote:Did you use rattle cans? Also, what paint and colors did you use?
You could always repaint it if you don't like the first try

Re: Dulling shiny plastic?
The automotive Paints are by far less expensive I DO AGREE. I have tried dull-coat and really was not happy, the KLEAR FLOOR SHINE and X21BASE FLAT mix works very well, but using an airbrush.

Go with the strip it down, prime it, spray it option you can get a cheap airbrush at a local hobby store, its great fun to learn .. I use humbrol / revell enamels or Vallejo acrylics practice on card and watch a few youtube lessons some are great ive added a pic of my Tiger as an example lots of light coats let them dry between and if you make a mistake you can always spray it again in 1/16 th youd have to really layer it on befor youd loose detail deffinition..... have fun

Beautiful tank, buddy. I'll go the airbrush route. Thanks!
