Building a Tiger 1

Post by Bigwheels_inc »

Hi Guys,
I'm Building another tiger 1
Usualy its a quick paint job and a bit of weathering and I call it done as they are only runners,
this one I've gone a bit further and done some unusual mods to make it look a bit better.
theres a few things to work out though like how long should the mantlet MG be and whats wrong with the rear storage bin on the turret (I know the sides are the wrong angle but is the original bin to wide or is the escape hatch slightly in the wrong place ?)
all odd little things but they will add up,
just done most of the upper hull wiring from scratch and then forgot to put the ring gear in for the bottom of the turret so I decided to call it a night.
ive got the smoke comming from the Exhausts instead of the pipes that usualy sit next to them, fixed the seam around the turret, made a loader, modified a tank commander, moved the turret hole 10mm back and centered the bottom of the turret, removed the tools and cut out the holes for the front hatchs, and got a model of the engine to copy in 1/16 scale.
which bits of bodywork do you guys think let the H/L Tiger 1 down ?

Ok Pete it's a long road with a heng long lol so you have moved the turret back that the main prob allso a big problem is the turret is the wrong shape!!! The mantel is allso wrong as the gun barrel does not sit in the centre but is off set !! So the turret angle is allso offset on one side!! . Allso the antena tube should only be on the write hand side there was not one on the left!!! Plus the rear plate should not sit under the hull but against the hull so the rear grills are then set in and not sitting on top of it! Plus the hull itself is 1mm thinner that a tamiya hull!! Allso the comanders hatch is at the wrong angle! I've fitted a tamiya turret on mine and loads of tamiya parts I'll take a pic of my tamiya storage bin against a heng long one to show the difference! But I think the escape hatch is write !! The only thing left on my tank is the upper hull and there's only 70% of that left lol just depends how far you want to go with it!!!

LoL it is a long road to go down but its a long term project and it helps that there's no time limit on it.
still cant decide wether to make it an early or late model but having removed the seem around the turret and early makes more sence.
Already removed the left antenna tube so thats done :)
still trying to find out how much to long the turret is, and I noticed somewhere the turret is the wrong shape but cant find the details on it now as I want to correct the sides where the angle is wrong,
all of the tools and the jacking block have gone and I'm lost with the gun cleaning rod supports as on the H/L Tiger they never line up with the ones on the molded ropes
besides this and not to give too much away I will be putting the I/R system in it and having the correct lenth barrel.
and by the time its dome atleast it should look more like the tiger 1
and at this rate it will be done before heng longs I/R tiger 1 LOL

The site that the Blimp has there is very good! Helped me work out a few things I dident know!! It alls has the turret dimensions !! I'm going to post some picks of my tamiya turret against the henglong one and the storage bin a bit later on ! So you can see the differences. Now the towrope holders are simply been put in the wrong place!! I thought it was the towropes that mite of been wrong so I got some tamiya ones and they don't match up either lol so I ground one off each side and because I had a spare hull I cut them off that and fitted them on mine to solve it ! Rite off for my tea now I'll post them pics on mite be about ten ish !!

heres the towropes the tamiya is the gray one and the painted one is the henglong hope this helps oh and one more fault is the turret mantel pivot point is wrong it should pivot on the lifting points the henglong pivots on separate hinge in the turret that is two far back so the mantle pivots wrong this was done to accommodate the bb gun system
