Rite lads what's your thoughts on tank recoil systems what is in your opinion the best recoil system! Out there and I mean movement and realistic! Action wether it be tamiya or henglong or Asiatam or a custom built or modifications!!!

Custom built using the Tamiya King Tiger recoil unit as a base,with some modification the recoil can be modified to jump back very quickly on the fire/ejection stroke,then return at the normal speed.

I've been working on this for some time and have just about got it completed,my Tamiya Porsche has a brass pivot assembly and barrel guide,then in turn has a plate that the guide rails of the Tamiya Recoil bolts on too. The issue was being able to create a movement that is smooth yet require little force to create barrel that movement.

The way had to be found that caused the barrel in the ready position to be under tension,ready to slide back quickly,then return-at the normal recoil unit speed.I think I have this worked out and will try to post a video tomorrow of the test firing.

personally this one is system based if you are running H/Long straight id go for YHRs and 971wrights stug re-coil mod

No nothing like that,that mod has been tried by many,my approach is completely different,and much more controlled with a much more realistic movement, I used video to time the move a developed a slide design that creates the motion, That mod you have works ok,but seems rather weak,does not really use a machined approach.

lol the only weak thing there is the plastic gear wheel which could be replaced with the wecohe brass wheel?

ask again in about a month, I am working err perfecting a servo based system. I would think this would be a good choice because of the programmability. never know for sure though which is why I say in a month I will know.

I have a standard Tamiya recoil in my KT, with the Wecohe modification on it. Works like a charm, goes a little smoother then normal and not as fast as stock.

we add a servo slow to ours so you get the correct speed on the servo re-coils works puurfect

Having gone the the list from scratch built to modifying a Heng Long BB gun unit, Asiatam and Tamiya, I have come to the following conclusions. For the most realistic and easy results either the Asiatam or Tamiya depending on the tank. For my Panzer III I found the Asiatam to give the best results as far as how the gun recoils and return to battery. On the 21st Century M-48 that I modify I find that the Tamiya is better. The Panzer gun recoils very quickly (the 12 inch to the foot model) and returns to battery faster than most. The M-48 on the other hand has a relatively slow recoil and return to battery, comparatively speaking.

As for ease of conversion the HL gun unit modified to operate in reverses already has the correct mount and all that you need to adjust is the barrel position. The wiring is straight forward, leave it stock.
On some tanks, The Tiger 1 and Panzer III the Asiatam fits quite nicely and needs little adjustment, but the wiring leaves something to be desired. If the little micro switch hangs up a little it will either not work at all or give multiple track recoil with the RX-18 MFU (anyone got a fix for that?). The Tamiya wiring is a little easier than the Asiatam, but only slightly and you should know what you are doing before you try it. Mounting the Tamiya is a snap as long as you use Tamiya parts. My M-48s use Tamiya Pershing parts and it is a snap.
I have not mentioned scratch building because that is a step best left to the engineer/electrician with a lot of mechanical ability. That said you can get some nice results by going this direction. Memory wire, servos and small linear actuators are only fun if you know what you are doing, but then again playing with something you don’t know can be a lot of fun. There's nothing weak about te fileing teeth off method sax, both wecohe and impact use this and withs variable pot to tune the return speed the result is as accurate as it gets. Would like to see your mod though
