Saying hello

Post by Horne92 »

Would just like to say hello, I've be looking on this forum for the last few days and decided to join.

So where to begin? I have always been interested in rc vehicles from a very young age (I'm now 19) so still young, but it I have been envolved with other hobbies and this has always been something I come back to. Anyway I have ended up getting back into rc stuff and really would like to try tanks, think I want a tiger 1 from HL however the Taigen metal model has caught my eye.

I'm currently doing a degree in motorsport engineering and race quads and jetski's as well as working as a mechanic with plant and agricultural machinery, so I know a bit about engines and electronics. I would quite like to buy the Heng Long and then upgrade it myself, but the price of the Taigen is so good it seems hard to ignore. Does anyone have any experience with Taigen, I'm going to have a serch on the form more more info but thought I should say hi first.

Hi and welcome James.

I started with the HL Tiger 1 so a bit biased when I say good choice.

Between the taigen and HL. I've not seen the taigen (in person) but understand comes with a lot of the upgrades you'll may end up putting on a standard HL anyway so could be the better starting point.

If you go for the HL both plastic and pro versions come with plastic rear idle wheels, which will eventually become loose leading the the tracks coming off whilst turning. Not difficult to fix but a bit annoying.

If you don't already know you should be looking for a smoke and sound version (sometimes referred to S&S) and comes in a white box (older version is black)

If you have any question just ask.

Yes the S&S with the rx18 rather than the board type, I was looking at the upgrades and track tensioners and driveshaft supports came to mind as the Taigen doesn't come with them. However would they work on the Taigen as they are designed for the HL?

Is the Taigen based on the HL? Looks very similar and both use the rx18, so I guess it uses parts made for the HL Tiger.

It might be an idea to ask the question if the Taigen comes with those parts as might be but just simply not listed.

As for HL bits fitting theTaigen as far as I know it will. I beilive the Tiagen is a HL at heart then upgraded with the upgrades common to the HL. if that makes sense.

Drive supports not found I needed them on either my plastic Tiger or my modded (heavy) Tiger. Rear idle adjusters have on the heavy tank and to be honest don't think it makes much difference I found as long as the idle wheels stay solid with no play then will keep tracks on.

MIght be easier to wait until you have one and run it and see how you get on. Using old moto if not broke don't fix it.

Hope that helps.

If you interested in history or having your tank historically true. The HL Tiger is an early production model I think the Taigen is a late production model.

Makes no difference to using it, but there will be little differences in the apperance.

Yeah I would like it to be accurate, I would have converted the HL to a late version anyway so I guess the Taigen has another tick so to speak.

Always nice to get some great help as soon as joining a forum

In which case the Taigen probably better, as to buy late model wheels is £50

http://www.welshdragonmodels.co.uk/asia ... -502-p.asp

and those don't fit the HL hull, there for the Asiatam hull which is another £60. So the £180 Taigen soons sounds better option.
