Sherman Firefly

Post by Carnage »

Just wanted to share some pics of my Sherman Firefly build. It is based on my M4A1. Bought that tank secondhand and wanted to make it something of my own if you know what i mean :D Gives me more pleasure driving it when i know i have put a lot of work in to it.

Any way, i started of making the turret a bit longer and replacing the barrel with the 17 pounder.

Not really made a lot of pictures during the build, simply to buisy working on it :haha: Decided to make it a bit lighter coloured then it used to be. A light colour will show th length and size of the barrel a lot better and will make the Sherman look a bit bigger as well.

Finally primered the whole thing after a rebuild, this tank was put together poorly to say the least, and gave it all some Olive Drab.

So that is how she sits now, waiting for some weathering and further detailing.

Done a lot of research on the Firefly, also have 6 books full of pictures. The fun thing about the Firefly is that almost every part of the Sherman has been combined with the 17 pounder gun, giving me a lot of freedom when it comes to building it.

I'll keep you guys posted on the progress.

Nice looking tank. I do like the sherman with a 17 pounder gun fitted

Thinking about putting in a Pershing MF unit, the sound of the gun firing of the Sherman is just so out of place now. It needs a BANG not a POP.

Already have one ready to go in. The advantage of this is that the Pershing MF and the Sherman DMD can be mixed, there are not many Tamiya tanks that have that i believe. Most require both the MF and DMD unit of the same type tank.

So to get better and different sound, the Pershing MF is the cheapest way to go.

Thanks for the comments guys!!
