New to this and is this any good?

Post by Nigel »

Hi, my son is army mad and after buying some great infra red battle tanks last year which provided endless fun its time to step it up a level...

Is this tank any good? Budget is no more than £100, I would like smoke and sound etc etc...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320657628181? ... 1423.l2649" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also I have noticed a pro version (£40 extra)...is it worth the extra?

Knowing the power of forum knowledge I hope you guys can helo me out...

Hi Nigel

Welcome to the forum.

Not a Heng Long owner myself, so will let you get your recommendations from those who are.

The main thing is get the best you can for your money, and enjoy yourself. :thumbup:

Hi and welcome to the forum, Heng Long tanks are great value for money and a good starting point for modifications. The plastic is tough as old boots, electronics can sometimes be a bit iffy. Don't leave your charger unattended they sometimes melt!! That is a good price for the Walker Bulldog but it came after WWII so not one for my collection. :wave:

Just had a thought....unusual for me. Does anyone know if a Walker Bulldog shares any components with a Chaffee and could it be retro converted to one? :think:

Thanks for the welcome's...tank is built and tested ready for xmas day :D . Had some issues with the transfers not sticking to the plastic but luckily there were some spares.

One question about the smoke liquid, I know where it goes but how does it actually work? does it heat up and then emit the smoke? I cant see how it works?

Also, painting it, any special paint I should be using?

Cheers

Nigel,

The smoke fluid goes into a little tank with a heater element in. Fluid is soaked up with a thick wick to the element which creates smoke. Then the pump blows it out.

Painting is used Humbrol spray acrylic (matt) and that worked good to say didn't prime, sand or clean the plastic. Then used humbrol enamel to touch up the detail like tools etc.
