Tiger and Panther hull front dimensions

Post by MarkofZollo »

For my dissertation I wanted to look at the benefits of sloped armour (an excuse to look at tanks :D ) so I am trying to simulate a projectile impact on the hull front of a Tiger and Panther in Solidworks. I cant seem to find the full dimensions of the hull front of either tanks so if anyone can help please do.
I also will try a physical scale test so if anyone has a spare hull of either and would like to donate it to Science :D
Though still not sure of the best scale to reduce the scale effects.
Anyway, any help is greatly appreciated! Cheers

You can do a mock up with the proper steel on a fixed platform for destructive testing. IE-shooting APFSDS-T at it.

I can't think of anyone willing to give up a hull in any shape for destructive testing.

I wish I had the resources to do an accurate test like that! :D More likely to be using an air rifle to fire at a mock hull to comparitively test the results.
If previously requested info is lacking perhaps Tamiya Panther and Tiger owners out there could measure thier tanks? I gather the Tamiya tanks are more accurate at least than the HL ones
Thanks for any help

I don't know if this is what you looking for, but this is the Panthers I had found a while ago.

85mm of armor sloped at 55 degrees gave it an effective thickness of 185mm making it difficult for allied armor to penetrate

Those specs are a little off :thumbdown:

The final model Panther Ausf G had a maximum of 80 mm on the glacis plate and 120 mm on the gun manlet :thumbup:

In any case, still sufficient over the tanks frontal arc to defeat AP shot from British and American 75 mm/76 mm guns at any range, and the Soviet 85 mm gun at ranges exceeding 500 m 8|

Yeah it was 80mm frontal armour, effective thickness of 140mm for a flat trajectory shell. Even the 60mm prototype had effectively 105mm.
Anywho I need dimensions like the arrowed in the following at bottom and right;

but all of them. Looking at the front of the tank all widths and heights of each part of the hull front. Cheers for the help! :D
