Cheap'n'Cheerful Tiger I

Post by adler »

Well, here's my first attempt at modifying an off-the-shelf tank. Not really a "build", more of an alteration and detailing job but I don't like the idea of posting in the "Show Off" forum.

Here's what I did:-

Removed "extra" radio antenna tube and rear RH light

Rotated cupola and removed LED from mantlet. (luckily mantlet was already correct way round)

Added cables for smoke launchers - fuse wire.

Added some details to inside of both turret hatches. Used an old washer, staples and card.

Added covers and cables to headlights. Scrap gardening wire for cables. Covers made from scrap card discs from out of a hole punch.

Added turret lifting pizel at rear and stuck small card discs (also from hole punch) on the other two.

Made an internal antenna out of an old thread bobbin and scrap wire. Put a dummy antenna in the correct position.

Added small fastenings to the tool box using fine fuse wire and plastic from an old margerine tub.

Made a fire extinguisher out of an old ink cartridge.

Added step and handle to front of hull made out of a paper clip and plastic scrap.

Engine grills were made out of paper and plastic filter mesh.

I planned to spray green camouflage over the sand brown base colour but grew impatient to finish and get the tank running as that is what it is for, definitely not for sitting on a shelf. I tried to hand paint the markings as decals or transfers often seem ( to me at, least) to be "shiny" and stand slightly proud of the surface. They're a pretty poor first attempt but hopefully I'll get better with practice.

Apart from re-doing the markings, I'm planning to extend the barrel next. And after that.....

Sorry the photos aren't that great. That's something else for me to work on!

Dave.

That's really impressive stuff. I would've thought more than worthy for the 'show off' section!
