Hey everyone! Well I've finally got my tank it's a Heng long Tiger 1 . It came with metal tracks and front sprockets and gears but I can tell you the gears are not 3 in 1 and the metal tracks are the ones were you can see the pins on the inside! So they will have to go at some point . Allready got the Asiatam hull got that befor the tank!! Lol anyway got lots of things in mind so I'll been nocking on welsh dragons door and forgedbear!! Hi The Tank Man,
Well done on getting the tank, and on choosing the Tiger AND the Asiatam hull ! The conversion of the normal metal gearbox to a 3-1 system is easy if you are fairly good with an elecrtic drill and can get a spare set of the plastic or metal 'First-gear' in the drive train....then you can do this mod

Enjoy the tank !!!

Sorry I forgot to say... :{ the metal tracks with the 'Visible' track pins are not that bad and will work well for a remarkably long time. Just take the tracks off and check all the pins are properly located.
The easiest way to get the tracks off WITHOUT removing a track pin OR completely undoing the track tensioner and then 'Fighting' to pull a track horn over the idler is :- ......... Remove the drive sprockets plastic central cover and then use an allen key to remove the cap head allen bolt that secures the sprocket to the gearbox drive shaft.
Now with a bit of compression on the first suspension wheels, the drive sprocket can be pulled off of the drive shaft and then 'Rolled' down the links of the track until it is at the midpoint of the suspension. Now it can just be pulled out of the 'sagging track' and the whole track can be pulled free of the remaining wheels. Put the track on its 'Side' on a piece of metal or on a metal ruler and check that all the securing pins are pressed in equally. I then put a single small drop of something like 'Evo-stik' on each outer end of the track pin / track edge and leave it to dry. When it is first done it looks a bit of a lump but the glue really flattens as it drys. Then Reverse the process to put the track back on and to replace the drive sprocket. It can also be worth placing a small drop of the glue on the outer edge of the allen screw after it has been fully tightened in the drive sprocket. It does not need to be very much glue just enough to stop the screw from working loose when the Tiger is driven around. Then just repeat te process for the other track as well. This will hold the track pins in place and stop them from working loose and coming out at one end .
(I think that it is the Drivers side allen screw that comes undone as the tank is mainly driven forwards which means that the sprocket is always pulling the screw anti-clockwise)
Just as a side issue I use a contact adhesive like Evo-Stik on nuts or bolts on my motorcycles....once it is dry it grips the part and absolutely stops them from vibrating loose...BUT...it remains flexible enough that the nut / bolt can still be easily undone with a socket etc...its like having everypiece in nyloc form only much better.....AND you can paint it which is great for the 'Rat-Bike' :haha:

Congratulations mate.

You'll probably need the 3:1 gearbox as the extra weight of the tracks and hull puts some strain on the standard gearbox/motors.

Also talking about extra loading you probably need to look into the cooling fan mod on the RX18 otherwise you my damage it, or at least take the lid off it so the heat can escape. I'm running mine with lid off for now until I get a fan ordered and fitted.
