Smoke?
Smoke?
Hi!
My new Heng Long Walker Bulldog won´t create exhaust-smoke other then short and small little "puffs" (don´t know if that is the right word but I think you know what I mean) I have followed the instructions about quantity of smokeoil to be filled but don´t know if it means 2-3 ml. per "pipe" or a total of 2-3 ml. (I have filled ca. 1,5 ml. per pipe) If any one knows anything about this, please help.
By the way I´m new here so hello to you all.

Re: Smoke?
Hi Dnepr1.
It doesn't really matter both tubes go to same point. I take it you can hear the smoke pump running?
Generally the smoke units fail as the heating element breaks but if you getting some although small amount that would suggest it's working. Next step is drive the tank a bit or shake just to get the smoke oil you put in down into the tank.
The way the smoker works is has like a bit of rope/cloth around the element this sits in the oil and the oil is drawn up to the heater as that is dryer. So I think just bear with it and it should be fine.

Re: Smoke?
Tankbear, thanks for the explanation, and yes, I can hear the pump, I will try to shake/drive to see if it improves.
I plan to take the tank apart to paint and give it more details and, from what you told me, maybe take a closer look at the smokegenerator. Thanks again.

Re: Smoke?
Hi Dnepr1,
Don't get too excited about the smoke unit as the standard one is at best is rubbish. Mine did little, added oil bigger puffs for a short time then not a lot, added more oil until I over filled it then nothing.
But if your going to take apart to paint you can have a look and play with it, it's quite straight forward a motor driving a piston which sucks/blows air in and out of the pipes. All attached to the oil tank with a heater element in.
If you remove the lid off the oil tank (four screws) and the heater is making the smoke then chances are the pump isn't managing to get air in and out. (note if you over fill this is best way to dry it out).
Anyway loads of helpful people on this forum, so you'll be right.

Re: Smoke?
I must say I like this forum. I joined yesterday and asked for help, and only half an our later got an answer.
About the missing smoke. I turned the tank up side down for a minute, and guess what? Now it smokes
Thank you very much for your help.

Re: Smoke?
Now the smokegenerator is totally dead, not even the motor is running. So, I have taken it apart and everything looks ok. (nothing loose and good contact everywhere as fare as I´m capable of testing). Does any of you guys know what voltage should be fed to the unit? Can I test it with a battery direct to its cable?

Re: Smoke?
I think all the small internal motors are 6v so you should be fine connecting directly to 7.2v battery for a short time to see if motor does something.
Another few things to check is voltage output from rx18 board and continuity on the smoke switch circuit. closed circuit means the smoker has voltage.
Hope that helps.
