My Tiger V2.0

Post by jackeb »

Hi,
Since my last posting my Tiger has changed somewhat. I persevered with a weathered panzer grey but I couldn't get her to look how I wanted. Also, although I thought the HL decals were quite cute at first, they started to annoy me and I wanted a bit more realism. In the end I went for Tiger S33, I was going to do S23 but, to be honest, I couldn't be bothered to muck about with the Tamiya decals that much!
Although I couldn't find any photographic evidence that S33 was ever painted in winter camo I did find some pictures that verified she fought on the Eastern Front during the winter and I also found some photos of other Tigers in the same battalion sporting winter garb.I went for a heavily faded and weathered look as if the tank was coming out of the back end of winter. So a little bit of artistic licence and liberty taking later................................
All that's left is fitting the 3:1 ratio boxes, metal idlers and sprockets, track tensioners and Elmod Eco, which are all under the bed where 'She Who Should Be Obeyed' can't find them ;) .
As ever your thoughts, opinions and comments will be appreciated.
As a foot note my eldest boy, inspired by his Dad, has just spent some of his birthday money on a HL 1/24th M1A4 Abrams. That's my boy.

Winter of 1943 perhaps? I think you have done a fine job, looks like it has gone through the Russian winter hell of that pivotal year. Well done.

Thank you for your kind comments. I was thinking the winter of '43. I would imagine is was a winter of hell for all those fighting.
It's difficult to know when to stop with the weathering sometimes, but I carried on until I kept getting the urge to wash my hands after handling it! Great fun though and very absorbing, therapeutic even.
I've got to say that coming back in to tanks after 20 odd years (any body remember when a remote control tank was attached to a controller by two wires?) that you guys have raise the standard of build, detailing and finishing so high it's been a steep learning curve just to reach the level of my humble effort. Some of the tanks I've seen on this sight should be displayed as works of art. So well done to you lot and thanks for the inspiration.

Nice Tiger, :~
The 3 bar symbol ,1 horizontal and 2 vertical that are on the drivers side front and rear indicate that it is a Tiger from the 2nd SS panzer Division 'Das Reich'.....the symbol was used prior to the the Kursk Offensive.
