Canon up/down control

Post by Tankbear »

Got HL Tiger 1 S&S and the canon has stopped moving up and down. It still makes the sound but no movement.

When I briefly opened it up to look inside I couldn't see anything out of place although couldn't actually see the motor/servo (I didn't dismantle the turret as didn't have time).

Is the motor/servo easy to replace? Anyone done a guide?

Hi Its probably a loose wire ,the elevation unit is built very strong not much to go wrong with it.One thing you can check with out stripping the turret down is the 3 wires that come out of the turret to the small board 2 black and one red ,the red is postive the other two are negative ,one is for the BB gun and the other is for the elevation unit.check they havnt come off.

hi. it could be the peg on the back of the bb unit. when you look at the elevation unit there is a small plastic peg that sticks out from the back of the bb unit. the elevation runs round on the peg, giving it the up and down movement. if the peg is broken off you will need to replace your bb unit or fashion a repair. hope this helps. dave

Easy way to check for what Dave explains is to gently move the gun up and down, you will feel a springy movement that should stop depending on the gun position.

If you can hear the motor in the turret turning then this is a likely culprit, there is also a spring that rests against the turret roof that sometimes displaces.

Well when I manually move canon up and down i can feel spring resistance but no motor noise. Plus canon always in highest angle.

So does that sound like the BB gun pin has broken off and needs replacing or repairing?

If you can't hear the motor working away when your try and elevate or depress the barrel then there is a good chance it's a wiring issue. Best bet would be to open it up and check as there are a few places the wire could come away.

Fixed.

Not certain what was really wrong with it, suspect jammed gear or something. As the unit wasn't working took it apart and motor worked fine put back together and worked again.

Broke again!

Worked fine last night then stopped working again might have been battery running flat but all other functions still worked ok.

I’ll take the motor box apart again and test. Must be something jamming the gears, or a knock of the tank is cause something to move and jam it up.

One thing I did notice last night when I had it in bits, but wasn’t certain why. The gears are arrange motor with worm drive turning one shaft, second shaft, third shaft, final gear with ramp on (to raise lower canon). The second and third shafts had the large and small cogs joined. The first shaft the large and small cogs are not connected but a spring forces the two cogs together and I presume the friction allows the transfer.

Presume this arrangement allows the gears to slip if the canon is forced or held in place. But doesn’t explain why mine is jamming the motor cannot turn (unless jam is between worn gear and first cog)

If the motor runs , press against the large cam gear with a finger to see if the clutch gear is slipping . the small teeth in it are easily damaged and once rounded off don't work , or do so very weakly . Also check that the gun dosn't snag anything , like on the wires when it's assembled . poorly soldered wiring is another common H/L bug .
  • ~Otherwise it looks like a new elevation motor .
to the bouncy room ! Yay !
