Japanese T-74

Post by getemuphigh »

I have a Sankyo 1/10 scale nitro tank that I have being doing up.
Its the Japanese T-74.
This model T-74 can be electric or gas nitro engine powered.
I got mine 2nd hand so I have been repairing, painting and and cleaning it.
It has a nitro O.S. FS (four stroke) engine fitted.

Here is a short video of the first run went I got it going last year.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gf_5dEiq12c" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Sorry for the poor video, I was driving the tank and holding the camera at the same time.
You will see that at one point it would not go forward and had to try a few times, this was when the forward clucth gears would not engage for some reason.
I will get a better video and pics done and post.
Cheers.

I have to see the drive system on this one for sure. If it a 4-stroke it seems to either have the wrong fuel type or the rings are gone? But not sure which OS motor you have? Thanks for sharing this is the first tank of this type on the forum.

Would really like to see the entire drive train if possible? I really an curious of the ability to have reverse which would appear to need a rather complex transmission? Or is the drive a belt driven mechanism that adjust belt tension to drive in opposite directions the clutch/transaxle system?

Curious about this for sure, will await the next post. cheers Saxondog

The Japanese company who made these are called "Sankyo"

They have been around for quite a while but don't think they sold many outside of Japan.

The only web site I have found info and pictures on is Tokyo Hobbies, link below, its shows the drive and gears etc.

http://www.tokyo-hobbies.com/sankyo.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The reason for all the smoke is that it stills runs on normal nitro fuel and I had it running quite rich (less air more fuel) for its first run when I had it going, its an OS engine, link below:

Ant chance of seeing under the hood? The post does show an electric drive,so is the difference only the substitution of the GAS O.S.Engine for the electric? Really don't see how it could be that simple,or is the Gas drive system different?

What I am most curious about is the gearbox, seems the servo linkage changes the contact gear to reverse the direction? Thanks Saxondog

You can e-mail cerjak_i@yahoo.com and he will send you plans ,parts list, supplier of the transmissions he designed and builds. He has several different models, he sends them for free. If you ask him for the CT-1 plans /step format he will send them right out. this trans both sticks forward tank moves forward.one stick slightly back turn that way..etc. has two servos to move seperate clutch mechs. supports up to 30kg tank
