Tiger 1 rear suspension mod

Post by tankman »

Hi Guy's thought this might interest anyone who ownes or is building a Tam Tiger 1 or Panther/jagpanther. It's a simple mod on the existing rear suspension that should help prevent track throwing. All I did to the stock setup was file all the screw threds off 3/4 of the main suspension screw. Then I screwed the adjuster unit nut onto the main screw untill it was off the threds and slid freeley up and down the unthredded part of the screw. Next I dropped an uprated Panzer III spring over the screw and onto the adjuster block then a washer on the top of the spring. Last of all a nylock nut on the top to hold everything in place. Now the rear idlers can deflect approx 4 to 6 mm and the tracks ( metal in this case ) are held under a light tension by the spring. I have posted a couple of pictures of the track tensioning bit. I will post some more of the actual track assembley and idlers as soon as I find my USB to camera connector. All the best for now
Alan

PS added three pictures at the bottom of the page showing how the track hangs and the normal position of the idler the last picture shows the deflection. Had to put the front of the tank up against the door to pust the idler in so there is a fair bit of tension in the spring.
