HL electrics overheating and frying.

Post by 1424David »

I know it gets a bit warmer in Australia than in Britain but our club members have been having electrics frizzle after running for nearly an hour.
If you are not using your smoke system in your HL or it just gives you the heebies the fix is simple.
Get yourself a small rectangular fan from an old computer.
Remove the heat sink attached to it.
Remove the smoke generator from the HL.
Use the two wires from the smoke on-off switch to connect the fan.
Use some spare plastic to make a cradle for the fan over the electrics.
You will find that when you use the start function the fan will not turn until the engine noise cuts in.
Ergo one cooler running HL model tank.
I also had problems with the metal rear idler wheels coming apart whilst the vehicle was in motion.
The fix here was to undo them slide them sideways with the track intact and re-insert the plastic ones I had replaced.
Tank runs like a beauty
Another thing I did was to buy Tamiya German Tank Grey in a spray can. Hated the original blue look of the HL.

http://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/forums/v ... +RX#p39722" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I had some issues some time back and use this modification in all my tanks, this may not work for everyone as I also use the super smokers in my tanks as well. The key is elevation creating air flow through the RX18 pulling the heat away. cheers Saxondog

I always take them out of the plastic case and mount them using hot glue and styrene. Just the better airflow allows the heat to escape.
