any metal idler will work, it is just the axle size you have to be concerned with. The asiatam ones fit (obviously), HL ones fit but you have to use the HL shoulder screw, and I have had to make some short brass tube inserts to get the Tammy ones to fit....easy enough do...

blimey that's some rebuild! I appear to have Mato tracks and idlers to fit, so any ideas if they will fit easily, just a self tapping screw in them like the HL ones. Replace the screw I guess somehow for a different type?
cheers
Nick

Hi, thanks for the reply, you seem to have experience with them. Do you know at all how/if I'd make the mato metal idler fit?
many thanks

I never used the Matto idler...but post some pics so I can see...it can't be too hard...maybe a bolt or two and some spacers..
Is it BB or just brass bushed?
Show the axles , too.

Will do, it's at my parents with the rest of the project, out of my wife's way lol looks like a metal version of the HL plastic ones, not BB, brass bushed I recall I think. will get a pic for you, thanks

Maybe the ones that come in the HL style metal track and wheel upgrade. They should fit the HL bolt, which in turn should fit the asiatam idler, perhaps with some filing...
hard part is getting the asiatam metal idler arm into hull. you have to trim the hull (pop off a piece of stock idler)
Here is a pic of the tamiya system. If you can get the parts from Jason;s store or AAF museum, much better set-up. I remember that on the HL hull, I had to 'pop' off the inner part of the tensioner..but I can't find pics of it right now...

They look nice Nic, only trouble I had was the asaitam ones, that I had,, the middle brass was to short so had to make them longer for the metal idlers ,and went and broke one ...what a dimbat

I feel now,......all that work and screwup on a simple thing like that!,.................just goes to show anything can and does happen,.
