Old version HL Tiger I
Old version HL Tiger I
Ive started the rebuild of my Tiger I. Cracked it open, tore it down and hope to get the first coat of primer on it tomorrow. Now this is the tank of mine that doesnt work, but I just might have found the problem: loose wire. Its one of the wires, that go from the 2 head lights, solder joint broke and its just dangling there. May be the problem, maybe not, time will tell. Not worried about it now as I have some painting to do. I had planned on a grey paint job, but I may go the dark yellow route, just havent found many grey ones for inspiration. When and where did the Germans use the panzer grey vs the dark yellow? I honestly dont know, Im looking and raeding, but my tank history isnt up to snuff yet. Ill post pics if I do something worthwhile, every body likes pics right?

Re: Old version HL Tiger I
My First tank,Heng Long Tiger I, Painted in Grey (Schwarzgrau 39-43) as used by Germany until the time of Kursk,or early 1943. But as you have said not to many in gray.
But the problem is to show the tanks color in a photo, depending on the light the gray varies. These pictures show the paintwork in several shades, yet it is the same tank? I have since been given a better camera and have discovered how to use it to good effect.

Re: Old version HL Tiger I
Long story short, but not much shorter: the loose wire I thought might be the prblem, its not. Laid out the zimmerit in milputt and threw a coat of rustoleum on it. Then painted it Tamiay dark yellow. Left it a day and just didnt like it, so I re primed it, and will go with the grey I wanted in the first place. Been under the weather past few days, so I dont stay in the garage long enough to really do much.

Tc Sorry your under the weather,I am as well. The gray I used is enamel Testors Master Modeler. The Tamiya Panzer Gray is much more of a blue Gray. As to which is correct? Depends on the camera,I have pictures of mine taken on the same day that vary.
I did use the floor polish as sealer, and the matte varnish for the dull coat. Hope you feel better,Sax

I re-primed the Tiger last night, and while I was at it, grabbed the jagdpanther and primed it too. I will get some more tamiya panzer gray and dark yellow this weekend. May order the S&S upgrade and radio for the Tiger as well as some detail bits. That's if the wife let's me of course
