Easy Weld Lines You Cant Screw Up

Post by Rogue Sub »

A really neat trick for adding weld lines to a model is using liquid embroidery gel. I was going to use CA, but if you screw up with that stuff your done! The embroidery gel just wipes off and you start over (well almost..it is a bit messy). First lay out the lines on the hull with a permenant marking pen using painters tape as a guide (If needed). Painters tape can also be a good way to help control the thickness of the weld line. Then use the dispensing bottle which has a built in nozzle to guide the flow. The nozzle can also be trimmed to affect the thickness of the bead. It takes a pretty steady hand but, if you screw up you can quickly wipe it off and start over. It dries hard in about four hours and it's even sand-able. For any of you who have ever welded it is a bit like mig welding

I have used it to simulate rivets before and it does a very good job for that as well.

I might give this one a try on my upcoming Asiatam chassis build!

I also love the sub. What's the scale/length of it?

That sub is a 1/32 scale German type 7. It comes in at 7ft long.
There is no "might" only do!

Is She a submersible or a true sub? I,m not familiar with the various U-boats.

What do you mean by true sub? Send me a PM and I will answer any questions you have. Lets keep this thread to weld lines

Type 7 was a true submarine as in it goes deeper than just below the surface. I love submarines, have no idea why but I seem to be drawn to them!

Regarding the welding. You are a legend. I gave up on the epoxy putty it just wouldn't sit right. I will have to try this, I take it a local hobby store will stock it?

Also is it possible to mark in patterns?
It is never just "one" tank!

Yes a local crafts store will work. Not sure where you are located but Michaels and Ac Moore in the US both carry these products.

If you use the silver paint type, it looks just like the correct stainless steel weld of the original tank, if you let it show through the paint.
