Hi Pete,

If you haven't already got it I can't recommend this book enough :-

Panzer Colors - Camouflage of the German Panzer Forces 1939-1945

You can find it for free on page 17 of this site :-

I recommend the Tamiya acrylic paints, i have been using these for years and just recently for air brushing, the colour range is massive with all the military colours you will need to do allied or axis tanks, it is touch dry in minutes and normally covers in one coat, the colours i use a lot off are dark yellow, german grey, olive drab, gunmetal, red brown, olive green and flat black which is great for the weathering, i did try Humbrol once but did not get on with it. Check out the pic for some King Tiger camo schemes.

Hi Pete to be honest I use all sorts on my models acrylic for spraying as they dry quite fast which is not good for drybrushing or hand painting large areas . Humbrol or other oil based paint for drybrushing and some washes these can go over acrylic after 24 hours as the thinners used ( white spirit ) don't affect the acrylic basecoat, can also be used to hand paint large areas as they are slow drying . Even water colours for washes. One word of advice DON'T put acrylic paint over enamal paint as you will get a nasty reaction. That's my short supply of wisdom exhausted. But in short it's what works for the individual some get on better with acrylic others with oil based. Also depends on budget and avalibility where you live. All the best for now

I'm the same as tankman, I tend to use  vallejo acrylics, tamiya and lifecolor. The Mig pigments are also brilliant for weathering. Prefer to use the Tamiya colours for the mass covering of tanks, pretty well thinned as I tend to spray mostly now, bit hit and miss at first but getting better as each model hits the end of the line. The final effect is much more realistic than using a brush, especially on fine parts.

For covering large areas in black, white or grey primer you cant beat Halford car sprays, much cheaper for the volumn you get. Otherwise its Tamiya for airbrushed colours and mostly humbrols acrylics for brush work. Keep meaning to try vellejo colours but so far my old pots havent run out.... yet. For metalics I still use Game Workshop acrylics. The only oils I use now are artist colours for washes and fine detailing.
You aint gettin me on no plane fool!
