Hetzer Jagdpanzer 38(t)

I have just started modifying the damaged base of an Action Man Scorpion Tank into something that resembles the Hertzer in 1/8 scale. Cutting the top of the Scorpion Tank is not a job for the faint hearted as it's a waxy horrible plastic, but hey ho. Hopefully it will look a bit more like it soon. More photos will be posted as the build continues and any suggestions on the gun mountingh would be appreciated.

Hi,

Thats excellent mate really good and I like the way you've done the mantlet. I thought miliput was the way to go. I should replace the chassis on mine really but I expect I won't

Hi mate yeah milliputs good , for the job . However I used a wire frame and beleive it or not tin foil on the inside . My Hetzers has elevation and recoil but the elevation is reduced to vertualy none at all by the gears/motors. Ive also made , well started a Jagpanzer based on the Hl Pz.IV . This is on hold . Im curently building a Styer RSO 01 and measuring up ready to build another scratch build which will be a beast , Im not disclosing just yet what it is tho.All in 1:16 and RC .
Good luck with this build mate.

Thanks for the tip re the barrel. I have started working from the back of the tank and added the driver and commander hatches which open and close. I have made them slightly oversize to accomodate the Action Man figures that will eventually populate this tank

The hatches do close ish. I forgot to say have you painted your Hetzer yet and did you choose the three colour disruptive livery. I am guessing I am not going to add re-coil to mine, so hopefully the up and down of the barrel will work ok.

Hi mate its coming on nicely . I havent sprayed my one due to compressor problems . Im going to do it in the spoty design which matches my model. I did originaly intend to make the late model with the muffler exhaust. Infact I did add this exhaust but as it didnt match the cammo design I wanted to do I reverted it back to a mid production version. Keep up the good work mate any pointers you need just ask.

Hi forgot mate . If you look at my build post you will see I bolted brass mounting points to the front of the Hetzer and mounted a HL recoiling KV1 barrel set up. The tank mounted mantlet base covered the bolts , just. This I altered be extending the barrel and making the Hetzer style mantlet , all from milliput with a wire frame.

Thanks for the tip on the barrel and yes I like that spotty design with the three colours although I'll probably bottle it and go for tank grey. I have only got a small airbrush and these tanks are quite big to paint with it. Tamiya do the three colours in spray cans, but they were six quid a pop at the local modelshop. In a fit of something I have amended the angles of the side panels on mine so that it's more squat than it was originally and fills the space to the edges of the Action Man original tank. Easier to explain in a photo than text. I'll up load one when I get a chance. Action Man does squeeze in ok through the hatch openings, which is a bonus.
