Make your own Recognition flags

Post by Johnf »

I'm making a recognition flagfor one of my tanks. Really easy with no specialist tools required.

Piece of material 100mm x 60mm. Draw line 5 mm around edge

Cut off the corners.

Some string with loops . Depending on what you want you can use one string ,two or none.
Image

Use some PVA glue and fold over the hem/seam or whatever you call this thin. I'm not a dressmaker.
Image

To blank out the circle in the middle a storm candle is about rifgt. Sprat rest of flag.

Make a stencil. I have used the plastic backing off my new iphone. It's reusable.

Place template and mask.
spray your symbol.

You can be neater if you want. I'm not fussy about this one as I want to weather it.

I airbrushed with some dirt colours and black.

I used my special stencil candle to burn some small holes for battle damage.

Final position on tank.

Now why not make a working convoy light.

Excellent John, their was a guy last year selling nice scale flags and E-Bay said they violated their rules, but this technique is really cool.

They are like that in ebay. They seem to have a big problem with the symbol. You can buy thousands of ww11 german models and figures and they draw the line with this. They should ban everything to do with warfare if they feel like that but imagine the loss og revenue. Only took a few minutes to make these. Did'nt even wait for paint to dry. I have fitted the convoy light to my Tiger and it works. Mg is also fittet to turret mantlet. I have upgraded this tank to elmod pro so will have ectra functions soon. Just waiting for 7 chanel radio and receiver. I transferred the elmod from the tiger to the panzer 111 and the asiatam recoil fitted burnt the board. The guy I bought the elmod from in Germany is very good. Said send it back to him and he will try for repair. Think I will use rx18 in the panzer 111. Think I might do a late tiger.

I think making your own is much more rewarding and it makes it possible to have more as well. Nice work Sir!

just noticed that one of my photos violated photobucket's terms of use. Wonder why. It's a whole series of making a nazi flag. Why this one. Will have to check this out. Maybe someone from ebay has gone to work for photobucket.

Just checked photobucket terms. Seems they have removed one of my ptotos and left the others. Rest will probably dissapear soon.

I know I have just stuck a big Nazi flag on the back of my tank but would like to confirm I am not a NAZI or have any such beliefs.

Photo bucket probably think I'm making flag for some political purpose.
