well!, this is not a bad kit for anyone just starting out into the world of R/C modeling, the kit  comes in the standard stout tamiya box and is nicely packaged and presented, one compartment for the electrics and one for the sprue's, see fig one. the first bit of assembly is for the front steering gear which is very easy to assemble although a little greasy to hold, the bumper will be removed at a later date as the kubel didn't have this fitted, see pic 2. next you can start on the electrics again very easy to do, you can screw into place the on off switch at this stage as well as fitting the servo and the red and blue wires, see pic 3 / 4. then slide in the metal connectors for the battery into the battery bay, see pic 5. next is the gears which are simplicity at its best no need to explain here, see pic 6. put the gears into place but don't screw them in yet see pic 7. place the servo into the rear gears flip the whole lot over and screw them in, see pic 8. the brains of the kubel is held in with an elastic band , simple yet in my opinion not very safe this is something i would change, see pic 9. and finally a top shot of the chassis basically done and wired up, see pic 10. so far this is a no problems build which makes it more enjoyable i think the hardest part will be washing off the grease and finger marks ready for painting.

i found one for $80 thats not too bad, i ran it around this morning and boy is it fast, the painting is gonna take a lot longer than the actual build what with washes filters and weathering and the like, its a very easy kit to work on been fun so far.

OK then, thats the build completed  and the kit broken down for painting ( the best bit ) all thats left is to give it a careful wash in warm water and a bit of washing up liquid, the surprising thing about this is i didn't drop or loose one screw nut or bolt, huh! must be getting better........ pics so far.

Looks good. Thanks for posting as I always wondered how the R/c mechanics fitted into it.

Cant help thinking that they'd also drop into a 1/16 Willis Jeep no problem.... such a shame Tamiya etc havent released one, It'd sell really well ::)

Nice one Oz. I have one of the 1/16 standard kits (non r/c) that my kids bought last Christmas, and wondered how the two kits differed in make-up, thanks.

well we have the base colors on ( again ) for some reason the Grey sprue,s will not hold the paint not even the primer which gave me no end of problems once the oil wash went on the paint on the Grey plastic parts started to blister so i had to take the whole bloody thing apart and clean all the paint off the parts, luckily the suspension is hidden by the wheels and you wont see much of it, the parts you will see i cleaned in vinegar but too me they still feel a bit greasy, all of this while fighting a bad dose of the flu!!, so then i used tamiya paints thinned with car screen-washer fluid the base color is desert yellow and on top of that  i sprayed desert yellow and a bit of white into the center of all panels to give it a bit of depth, next NATO green then a mix of NATO green / yellow into the center of the green camo pattern then the NATO brown then NATO brown / desert yellow into the center of the brown, after that i used a bit of  dark brown chalk pastel on some of the deeper areas to give a bit more shadow, the seats are painted German Grey and given a dry-brush of light Grey as a highlight  once everything is dry half a dozen coats of Johnson's klear is misted onto the model ( mist it on so you dont get any runs ) once its all dry you can see how much the paint has darkened down.
