Jagdpanther Pistol ports

Post by Saxondog »

Their is no picture I can find of the pistol port covers inside detail, or the detail of the port with the cover hatch open. So if anyone can provide this information it would help in my Jagdpanther build.

Back wall of the gun house by the rear Hatch, right hand side facing the hatch. Also some have this bar welded beside it that may be for the rear hatch but I can't tell. Then some have the storage bin on the left hand side of the back wall of the gun house with tools on the back deck instead of the sides. Mine is late production delivered in Jan-Feb, 1945 to FUHRER Grenadier Division one of the paper divisions but I have found record of the unit receiving the Jagdpanther's x 8 or 10.

What would the opening look like with the hatch open? A picture would be great. Sax

This picture shows the rear of the gun house, the bar by the hatch and the rear stowage bin. The pistol port is visible as is the tool mounting. Sax

I have found this picture which does answer the question of the port opening in the gun house wall. Still do not know if the hatch has a latch connected to the hatches cover plate on the inside. On another note the Tamiya instructions does not detail this parts function,so weather it is for shell cases or a pistol port is not clarified. Sax

The opening is definitely for ejecting spent cartridges. Attached (hopefully) is a picture of the hatch on the inside...

Hi Tankie, The picture is either out of frame or needs to be resized? Thanks for posting this is exactly what I need. As far as the purpose of the hatch shell ejection seems the true function. Please try to repost the picture, thanks Saxondog
