Darkith DBU/DBC any good?

Post by recoil »

DBU/DBC

OK, I'm thinking of dropping some coin on one of these setups, is anyone here using them?

They seem to be well priced (especially as a kit) but I'm mainly looking for better drivability, which they would seem to offer.

Also, how do they compare to a basic El mod booster setup?

I look forward to your opinions.

Cheers,

Andy

hey recoil,

i personally have 2 of these, in my stock heng long tanks, although i did not build it as a kit, or install it to the tank and blitz did that for me. they give you full IR combat ability, and as you get shot your tank slows, ect. as a normal system.

but when you turn the tank on, but before you press the ignition key on the controller, you can change some setting, such as you can turn tank jerk (hl recoil) on or off, and you can turn momentum on or off (how much the tank keeps on going after moving) and you can can super spin on or off, and onother i think which i cant remember.

i dont think they change the way the tank drivers, but they are well worth the money if you have people to battle!

thanks,

matt

Hi Recoil there are two types the original which is called DBC HL which works with the original Heng Long radio they work fine cost $45 for DBC then you will need the the DBU $15 and sound card $15  total cost $75 plus shipping .
The only draw back is you are still limited to how many tanks you can run 7 is the maximum there are 3 new channels out there 5/6/and 7 .

The new one Darkith has is called  DBC-RC2HL cost Is $55+ $15 for DBU and $15 for sound card These units allow you to use any radio you like as long as it is 4 channel or more so you have to cost this in I have one with a spektrum DX5I cost £55 you can run as many tanks as you like with this system .Darkith usualy Charges $20 for shipping to the U.K. so the more you order you save on shipping .these come in kit form and need to be soldered together if you cant use a solder iron you can order from the Blitz they come ready to install just like changing a curcuit board they cost alot more about $165 +shipping for complete set .

Thanks for the replies.

At the moment I want a tank that is going to be rewarding and realistic to drive over and above any other considerations.

Pete, what are your opinions of the DBC driving experience? Is it a big improvement over stock, or should I be looking at an El-Mod booster?

BTW, I have an S&S HL Tiggy, which will be getting some 3:1's in it soon.

Hi Recoil they are a great impovment over stock the features you get are mommentum  recoil disable super spin disable and full tamiya battle compatablity .You can disable which features you dont like or keep them you want .I have both types but havnt fully installed the one which runs with standard radio> Have taken 2 units to Bovington which use spektrum radios  and they ran without any problems .I am just installing my Tiger with first type, just doing testing at the moment it seems to be fine and working correctly but need to try it in battle conditions which will be at the weekend, when I get the grandson to try and kill me.For me they the best I can afford, If money wasnt a problem I would love to have all my tanks with El-mod without a doubt are the best but they are abit expencive .
So it depends on your budget if you have a large budget and an understanding wife go for El-mod ,if like me the boss spends all your money before you see it you will have to get your units from Darkith here is his site  http://darkith.dyndns.org/~darkith/html/dbc.shtml        this is Phils site  http://www.rctankwars.com/Battlecircuits.html  and here is el-mods  http://www.el-mod.de/index.php?osCsid=9 ... 8e2b230110

hope this helps if you need anymore info let me know

Just to add to this thread, to keep all the info in one place.

The postie delivered my kits today. DBC/DBU/Sound.

I dry fitted the components to the boards to check that I understood the instructions, and that I had all the parts. All ok, and the online instructions are excellent.

The soldering was a doddle. Though I cheated with a little dab of flux on each wire so that the solder formed a neat mound everywhere.

Then it was just cutting off excess protruding wire from the underside of the boards.

In all honesty there are not that many components in each kit, and if you are at all handy with a soldering iron then it is an excellent way to get a Tamiya compatible battle system for relatively little money.

The biggest challenge will be mounting the ir sensor board. The Bulldog turret is half moon shaped so I can't just bury it down there. It will have to sit on the top somehow!

That's good to know Rob. Did you get the DBC-HL or the DBC-RC2HL?

Hi Chris, its the DBCHL. I wanted to keep costs down, so I am sticking with HL 'lectrics on the Bulldog.

I had actually started writing a response to say how good it all was, with the led emitter being the only part not working yet. I went away and tested it..no joy. I even installed a jumper as described in Darkiths instructions..and was then greeted with smoke coming from the led? Short story is that the tank died, only the tank lights would flash.

I removed the Darkith unit and reverted to HL, and it all worked fine.

I put the Darkith unit back in and still no joy, so something has blown on the Control Board. I am now awaiting some advice from over the pond as to where I should look. There are aren't many components, so he will probably know straight away what caused it. The only thing I did was install a jumper as per the instructions (and my soldering is very neat all round), and it all stops working, its all very mystifying, but luckily any components are pennies, so a fix will be cheap.

I will keep you posted!

Cheers
