The best worst kit ever

Post by nibelungenwerk »

I have just about completed winter project no 2
An Andrew Design 223.
It is both one of the best kits I have ever built and at the same time probably the worst.
It is very well thought out 4WD and 4 wheel steer-Metal chassis running gear suspension etc.
It is however just about impossible to build out of the box-If you did manage to build it. its running time would be measured in seconds.
The only way to get it to work is buy the improvement kit and then spend a lot of time drilling and tapping every screw hole and throwing away the self tapping screws supplied. There is also a fair bit of grinding and milling just to get the gearboxes together.
It also cost a bloody fortune- but if you stick with it you end up with a very nice 1/16 model that very few others have got in their collections.
I cannot wait until they get their act together and finally release the Horch and the 234.

Lovely, been tempted by these but seeing as its resin and not readily available I didn't bother... like you say its also bloody expensive!

Here are photos of the inside and underside as requested.

The kit is not all resin, it a real mixed media kit- The running gear steering gearboxes and lower chassis are metal there are two sprues of injection moulded plastic some etched pieces and only the hull top and detailing pieces are resin. The aerial assembly is steel and alloy.

It is very expensive but different and it is certainly a challenge
